Maldivians (, ) are an Indo-Aryan peoples, Indo-Aryan ethnic group and nation native to the Maldive Islands, constituting the Maldives, Republic of Maldives and the island of Minicoy (within Lakshadweep, a union territory of India). The Maldivian language has four notable dialects. The standard dialect is that of the capital city of Malé. Maldivian cuisine, also called Dhivehi cuisine, is the cuisine of the Republic of Maldives and Minicoy, Lakshadweep, India. The traditional cuisine of Maldivians and Lakshadweep is based on three main items and their derivatives: coconuts, fish and starches. Coconuts The coconut is used in the grated form, squeezed to obtain coconut milk, or as coconut oil in dishes that are Deep-frying, deep-fried. The ''hunigondi'' is the traditional Maldivian implement used to grate the coconut. It is a long low chair with a serrated steel blade at its end. Maldivian is the airline division of Island Aviation Services and is based in Malé, Maldives. As the flag carrier of the Maldives, they operate international flights in addition to inter-island services, with its main hub at Velana International Airport. History On 23 April 2009, the Maldivian government, under a Presidential decree, incorporated Island Aviation Services Limited as a wholly government-owned limited company. The airline began operations with a fleet comprising one De Havilland Canada Dash 8, Bombardier Dash 8 Q200; and two Dornier 228 aircraft, serving only domestic airports within the Maldives. International operations commenced on 26 January 2008, with scheduled flights to Trivandrum International Airport, Thiruvananthapuram, India.
