Malcolm Spence (Jamaican Athlete)
Malcolm A. E. Spence (2 January 1936 – 30 October 2017) was a Jamaican athlete who mainly competed in the 400 metres. His twin brother Melville also competed in track and field. Spence competed for the British West Indies in the 1960 Summer Olympics held in Rome, Italy, where he won the bronze medal in the men's 4x400 metres relay with his teammates James Wedderburn, Keith Gardner and George Kerr. Curiously, there were two people named Malcolm Spence running the 400 meters distance at both the 1956 and the 1960 Olympics, both getting a bronze medal in 1960. Malcolm Spence from South Africa took the bronze medal in the Open race, while the South African relay team finished in fourth, one second behind Mal Spence's British West Indian relay team. The competition was held between September 3 and September 6, 1960. 59 competitors from 44 nations entered, but 54 competitors from 41 nations participated. Malcolm Spence (South African Athlete)
Malcolm Clive Spence (4 September 1937 – 30 December 2010) was a South African athlete who competed at two Olympic Games. Biography Spence ran for South Africa in the 1956 Summer Olympics held in Melbourne, Australia, finishing sixth in the 400 metres. Spence finished second behind John Salisbury in the 440 yards event at the British 1958 AAA Championships. Shortly afterwards at the 1958 British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Cardiff, Wales, he won silver in the individual event and was part of the team that won gold in the relay. The latter was won with teammates Gordon Day, Gerald Evans and Gert Potgieter. George Kerr (athlete)
George Ezekiel Kerr (16 October 1937 – 15 June 2012) was a Jamaican athlete who competed in the 400 and 800 metres. He competed for the British West Indies at the 1960 Summer Olympics, where he won the bronze medal in the 800 metres. He then teamed up with Keith Gardner, Malcolm Spence and James Wedderburn to win the bronze medal in the 4×400 metres relay. In 1962, he became the first Jamaican athlete to have the national flag flown in recognition of winning a gold when he won double gold in the 400 m and 800 m at the Central American and Caribbean Games held at Kingston's National Stadium. At the 1964 Olympics, representing Jamaica, he finished fourth both in the 800 m and the 4 × 400 m relay. Keith Alvin Saint Hope Gardner (6 September 192925 May 2012) was a Jamaican athlete who competed in the 110 metre hurdles, 100 metres, 200 metres, and 400 metres, who competed at the 1960 Summer Olympics. Biography In 1954, Gardner won a gold medal for Jamaica at the 1954 British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Vancouver, Canada over the 120 yard hurdles.
