Malcolm MacDonald (Canadian Politician)
Malcolm MacDonald (July 10, 1836 – September 23, 1902) was a merchant, ship owner, shipbuilder and political figure on Prince Edward Island. He represented 3rd Kings in the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island from 1900 to 1902 as a Liberal. He was born in Uigg, Prince Edward Island, the son of Donald MacDonald and Margaret Gordon, and was educated there. He married Grace Snelgrave in 1872. MacDonald established a shipbuilding and trading firm at Montague Bridge in partnership with Lewis Westaway. He was an unsuccessful candidate for a seat in the provincial assembly in 1882, 1893 and 1897. He served as a minister without portfolio in the province's Executive Council. Prince Edward Island
Prince Edward Island (PEI; ) is one of the thirteen provinces and territories of Canada. It is the smallest province in terms of land area and population, but the most densely populated. The Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island (french: Assemblée législative de l'Île-du-Prince-Édouard) is the sole chamber of the General Assembly of Prince Edward Island. The Prince Edward Island Liberal Party (officially the ''Prince Edward Island Liberal Association'') is a political party in the province of Prince Edward Island, Canada. The PEI Liberals are affiliated with the federal Liberal Party of Canada. History The party was created when PEI was a British colony by reformers who agitated for the system of responsible government. This was granted by the British crown to the colony in 1851. George Coles was its dominant figure in its first decades. Lewis Westaway
Lewis John Westaway (November 12, 1821 – November 23, 1885) was a merchant, ship's captain, ship owner and political figure on Prince Edward Island. He represented 5th Kings in the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island from 1876 to 1879 as a Liberal. He was born in Georgetown, Prince Edward Island, the son of Roger Dart Westaway and Damaris Watts, both immigrants from England. Westaway defeated Archibald John Macdonald by one vote in 1876 to win a seat in the provincial assembly. He was defeated by Macdonald when he ran for reelection in 1879. Charlottetown is the capital and largest city of the Canadian province of Prince Edward Island, and the county seat of Queens County. Named after Queen Charlotte, Charlottetown was an unincorporated town until it was incorporated as a city in 1855.
