Malcolm Broomhead
Malcolm William Broomhead (born 11 September 1952) is an Australian businessman who has held various directorships and senior positions in the Australian engineering, industrial and resources sectors. As of 2018, he is a director of BHP and Chairman of Orica. Journalist Andrew Crook wrote of Broomhead in 2012 that "nobody is more connected in Australian business". Career Broomhead attained a BE and an MBA at the University of Queensland in the 1980s. During his career in the engineering, industrial and resources sectors, Broomhead held senior management positions with Halcrow (UK), MIM Holdings, Peko-Wallsend, Industrial Equity and North Limited. At North Limited, he acted as managing director and chief executive officer. Broomhead was appointed managing director and Chief Executive of Orica Limited in 2001; a position he held until September 2005. He left Orica in 2005 to undertake treatment for cancer. North Limited was a diversified mining and resources company. Although based in Australia, its operations eventually extended to six continents. By the late 20th century the company had become the fourth largest iron ore exporter in the world with expansion underway which would have made it equal third. Its biggest asset was a majority stake in Robe River, a major miner of the Pilbara iron ore deposits of Western Australia and the world's lowest cost producer of iron ore. Asciano Limited was an Australian freight logistics company, operating in railway freight and shipping. Asciano was demerged from Toll Holdings in 2007, and owned Patrick Corporation and Pacific National as subsidiary companies. Asciano specialised in bulk and container shipping and transportation, with port and train operations across Australia. It had over 8,000 employees. It was an ASX 50 company. "Greenhouse Mafia" is the title of a TV program aired by Australian network ABC on the 13 February 2006 episode of its weekly current affairs program ''Four Corners''. The program says the term ''greenhouse mafia'' is the "in house" name used by Australia’s carbon lobby for itself.
