Malchiostro Annunciation
''Malchiostro Annunciation'' is a painting by the Italian Renaissance artist Titian, completed around 1520, and housed in the Cathedral of Treviso, northern Italy. The Malchiostro Chapel, located to the right of the high altar of the Cathedral of Treviso, near the sacristy, was commissioned by Broccardo Malchiostro, secretary of the bishop and humanist Bernardo de' Rossi. Designed by Tullio of Antonio Lombardo, it was completed in 1519 and frescoed by Il Pordenone until 1520. The decoration was completed in around 1523, and this ''Annunciation'' was executed by Titian around that period, perhaps with the help of Paris Bordone. The face of the donor was possibly repainted after 1526. Oil painting is the process of painting with pigments with a medium of drying oil as the binder. It has been the most common technique for artistic painting on wood panel or canvas for several centuries, spreading from Europe to the rest of the world. Treviso Cathedral ( it, Duomo di Treviso, Cattedrale di San Pietro Apostolo) is a Roman Catholic cathedral in Treviso, Veneto, northern Italy, dedicated to Saint Peter. It is the seat of the bishop of Treviso. Bernardo De' Rossi
Bernardo de' Rossi (26 August 1468 – 28 June 1527) was an Italian bishop and patron of the arts. Biography Rossi was the son of a feudal family of the area of Parma, at a young age he received the archdeaconate of Padua and the Abbey of St. Crisogonus in Zadar. On 4 Apr 1487, thanks to the support of the Republic of Venice, he was appointed Bishop of Belluno. On 16 Aug 1499, he was appointed as bishop of Treviso. Tullio Lombardo (c. 1455 – November 17, 1532), also known as Tullio Solari, was an Italian Renaissance sculptor. He was the brother of Antonio Lombardo and son of Pietro Lombardo. Antonio Lombardo (c.1458–1516) was an Italian Renaissance sculptor. Lombardo was born in Venice, the brother of Tullio Lombardo and son of Pietro Lombardo. The Lombardo (family), Lombardo family worked together to sculpt church decorations and tombs. He died in Ferrara, where he worked as marble master for Duke Alfonso I of Ferrara, Alfonso I. Pordenone, Il Pordenone in Italian, is the byname of Giovanni Antonio de’ Sacchis (c. 1484 – 14 January 1539), an Italian Mannerist painter, loosely of the Venetian school. Vasari, his main biographer, wrongly identifies him as Giovanni Antonio Licinio. He painted in several cities in northern Italy "with speed, vigor, and deliberate coarseness of expression and execution—intended to shock". He appears to have visited Rome, and learnt from its High Renaissance masterpieces, but lacked a good training in anatomical drawing. Paris Bordone
Paris Bordone (Paris Paschalinus Bordone; 5 July 1500 – 19 January 1571) was an Italian painter of the Venetian Renaissance who, despite training with Titian, maintained a strand of Mannerist complexity and provincial vigor. Biography Bordone was born in Treviso, but had moved to Venice by late adolescence. He apprenticed briefly and unhappily (according to Vasari) with Titian. Vasari may have met the elder Bordone. Lorenzo Lotto
Lorenzo Lotto (c. 1480 – 1556/57) was an Italian painter, draughtsman, and illustrator, traditionally placed in the Venetian school, though much of his career was spent in other north Italian cities. He painted mainly altarpieces, religious subjects and portraits. He was active during the High Renaissance and the first half of the Mannerist period, but his work maintained a generally similar High Renaissance style throughout his career, although his nervous and eccentric posings and distortions represented a transitional stage to the Florentine and Roman Mannerists. The ''Recanati Annunciation'' (Italian: ''Annunciazione di Recanati'') is an oil-on-canvas painting by the Italian Renaissance painter Lorenzo Lotto, executed around 1534 and housed in the Civic Museum of Villa Colloredo Mels, Recanati, Italy. History The work may date to the artist's sojourn in Venice, from where it would be shipped to the Marche around 1527.
