Malay Nights
''Malay Nights'' is a 1932 American pre-Code drama film directed by E. Mason Hopper and starring Johnny Mack Brown, Dorothy Burgess and Raymond Hatton. It was produced on Poverty Row as a second feature for release by Mayfair Pictures.Pitts p. 251 It is also known by the alternative title ''Shadows of Singapore''. Plot Pearl hunter Jim Wilson is on a visit to San Francisco from the Malay Peninsula when he encounters his old nemesis the card sharp Jack Sheldon. Jim tries to rescue Sheldon's girlfriend and her young son from his clutches. A series of mix-ups lead to Jim and her son returning to Singapore without her, and she has to work in a nightclub and bar to earn her passage. She arrives in time to help Jim beat off a deadly attack by Sheldon and his gang. Ralph Waldo Ince (January 16, 1887 – April 10, 1937) was an American pioneer film actor, director and screenwriter whose career began near the dawn of the silent film, silent film era. Ralph Ince was the brother of John Ince (actor), John E. Ince and Thomas H. Ince. Biography Ralph Ince was born on January 16, 1887, in Boston, the youngest of three sons and a daughter raised by English immigrants, John and Emma Ince. Sometime after his birth Ince moved to Manhattan where his entire family was engaged in theater work; his father as a musical agent and mother, sister Bertha and brothers, John and Thomas as actors. Plummer Hull Harman (February 3, 1886 – November 26, 1958), known professionally as Pat Harmon, was an American film actor. He appeared in more than 130 films between 1920 and 1947. In 1935, Harmon was the victim of a violent assault which resulted in serious facial injuries, and on August 29, 1935, he was sentenced to serve two-to-10 years in Folsom Prison after being found guilty of stealing a horse. After the incidents involved, Harmon's film career ended as he never appeared on screen again. He was born in Lewistown, Illinois and died in Riverside, California.
