Malarek
''Malarek'' is a Canadian drama film, directed by Roger Cardinal and released in 1988.Gerald Pratley, ''A Century of Canadian Cinema''. Lynx Images, 2003. . p. 135. Based on the memoirs of Canadian investigative journalist Victor Malarek, the film stars Elias Koteas as Malarek during his early career in journalism. The film's plot centres on Malarek, as a newly hired junior reporter in Montreal, Quebec, investigating unsafe and inhumane conditions in the province's juvenile detention system, interspersed with flashbacks to Malarek's own troubled youth when he spent some time in the very same system. The cast also includes Ross Hull as the young Malarek in the flashback scenes, as well as Kerrie Keane, Al Waxman, Daniel Pilon, Susan Glover, Bruce Ramsay, Vittorio Rossi, Michael Sarrazin and Walter Massey. Victor Malarek
Victor Gregory Malarek (born 26 June 1948) is a Canadian journalist and author, known for his book ''Hey, Malarek!'' and his tenure as one of the hosts of CBC's '' The Fifth Estate'', as well as his depiction in the movie '' Target Number One'' (known as ''Most Wanted'' in the United States). He retired as senior investigative reporter for CTV's W5 in 2017. Biography Victor Malarek was born on 26 June 1948 in Lachine, Quebec. Malarek attended the High School of Montreal, where he had a hard time. He also experienced the child protection system in his youth. Bruce Ramsay
Bruce Ramsay (born December 31, 1966) is a Canadian film, television and stage actor. Career Ramsay's screen debut was opposite fellow Montrealer Elias Koteas in the film '' Malarek'' (1988). Ramsay and Koteas went on to appear in two other films together, '' Hit Me'' (1996), and ''Collateral Damage'' (2002). Ramsay's first lead in a major motion picture came when he was cast as Carlitos Paez in director Frank Marshall's film '' Alive'' (1993), the biographical survival drama based upon Piers Paul Read's 1974 book '' Alive: The Story of the Andes Survivors'', which detailed the story of the Uruguayan rugby team that crashed into the Andes mountains. 10th Genie Awards

The event was held at the Westin Harbour Castle Hotel in Toronto and was hosted by actor Dave Thomas. The event was one of the most challenging in the history of the event. The venue had to be changed due to a scheduling conflict and, seven days before the show, CBC members of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) went on strike. This meant that the production lost access to staging and set elements, which were built by, and stored at, the CBC. The Genies also lost 100 CUPE production staff and crew. Elias Koteas (; ; born March 11, 1961) is a Canadian actor who has performed in lead and supporting roles in numerous films and television series. Walter Massey (actor)
Walter Edward Hart Massey (August 19, 1928 – August 4, 2014) was a Canadian actor, best known for voicing Principal Herbert Haney on the animated series ''Arthur'' and The Doctor in the English version of ''The Mysterious Cities of Gold''. He was based in Montreal, Quebec. He played Dr. Donald Stewart on the 1990s version of ''Lassie'', and had numerous roles on stage, and in films and television, for more than six decades. Massey was the cousin of actor Raymond Massey and was a founding member of Canadian Actors' Equity. Walter Massey's father, Denton, was an engineer and Ontario politician. Massey died in Montreal, Quebec on August 4, 2014, fifteen days before his 86th birthday.
