Maksym Khvorost
Maksym Khvorost ( uk, Максим Володимирович Хворост; born 15 July 1982) is a Ukrainian épée fencer. Career He competed in the individual and team épée events at the 2004 and 2008 Summer Olympics. Khvorost won the bronze medal in the épée team event at the 2006 World Fencing Championships after beating Hungary in the bronze medal match. He accomplished this with his team mates Dmytro Karyuchenko, Dmytro Chumak and Bohdan Nikishyn. The 2001 Summer Universiade, also known as the XXI Summer Universiade, was an international multi-sport event that took place in Beijing, China, between 22 August and 1 September. A total of 6,757 athletes from 165 nations took part in 12 sports. Fencing has been contested at every Summer Olympic Games since the birth of the modern Olympic movement at the 1896 Summer Olympics in Athens. The World Fencing Championships is an annual competition in fencing organized by the Fédération Internationale d'Escrime (FIE; ''International Fencing Federation'' in English). Contestants may participate in foil, épée, and sabre events. History The FIE first organized an international fencing championship in Paris, France in 1921. Bohdan Serhiyovych Nikishyn ( uk, Богдан Сергійович Нікішин, translit=Bohdan Serhiyovyč Nikišyn; born 29 May 1980) is a Ukrainian right-handed épée fencer, 2015 team world champion, and three-time Olympian. Nikishyn competed in the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, and the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games. Dmytro Oleksandrovych Chumak ( uk, Дмитро Олександрович Чумак; born 29 January 1980) is a Ukrainian épée fencer. Career Chumak won a bronze medal at the 2005 European Championships in Zalaegerszeg after being defeated 13–15 in the semi-finals by Poland's Tomasz Motyka. Along with Dmytro Karyuchenko, Maksym Khvorost and Bohdan Nikishyn, he earned the bronze medal in the épée team event of the 2006 World Fencing Championships after beating Hungary in the bronze medal match. Fencing
Fencing is a group of three related combat sports. The three disciplines in modern fencing are the foil, the épée, and the sabre (also ''saber''); winning points are made through the weapon's contact with an opponent. A fourth discipline, singlestick, appeared in the 1904 Olympics but was dropped after that and is not a part of modern fencing. Fencing was one of the first sports to be played in the Olympics. 2009 Summer Universiade
The 2009 Summer Universiade, officially known as the XXV Summer Universiade, was celebrated in Belgrade, Serbia from July 1 to 12, 2009. The event has also been organised by a range of co-host cities mostly in Vojvodina (Serbian Autonomous Province), close to Belgrade.
