Makonde District is a Districts of Zimbabwe, district in Zimbabwe. Location The district is located in Mashonaland West, Mashonaland West Province, in north central Zimbabwe. Its main town, Chinhoyi, with an estimated population of 61,739 people in 2004, is located about , by road, northwest of Harare, the capital city, capital of Zimbabwe and the largest city in that country. Alaska, Zimbabwe
Alaska is a small town in central northern Zimbabwe in Makonde District, Mashonaland West Province. Location The town is located approximately west of the city of Chinhoyi, the location of the district and provincial headquarters. Approximately to the northeast of Alaska are the Chinhoyi Caves in the Chinhoyi Caves National Park, a local tourist attraction. The town sits at an elevation of , above sea level. History Alaska grew up around the eponymous Alaska Mine, where pre-colonial miners are believed to have mined about a million tonnes of ore. Messina Transvaal Development Company (MTD) started producing copper in 1959 and the mine closed in 1977. MTD built a smelter nearby in 1966 and a refinery in 1980. Lomagundi College
Lomagundi College (or simply Lomagundi) is an independent, co-educational, boarding and day, senior school in Zimbabwe which is situated about 130 km northwest of the capital Harare along the Harare-Chirundu highway on the outskirts of Chinhoyi (formerly known as Sinoia) the provincial capital of Mashonaland West. Lomagundi College was ranked as one of the Top 10 High Schools in Zimbabwe in 2014. Nemakonde High School
Nemakonde High School is a Government high school located in Chinhoyi, Mashonaland West province, Zimbabwe. The school is located in Chikonohono Township on the southern part of the town. The school admitted its first pupils in 1979, offering only Form One classes. These pioneering pupils were the first group to write O levels exams in November 1982. The first headmaster was Mr Mukonoweshuro deputised by Mr Ngwenya. The school has enjoyed a long period of academic successes under the leadership of the now retired Michael Madare Shambare who was at the helm from 1991 to 2011. As of 2022, the school is headed by Mr Bernard Tavaguta, who took over from Mr Shambare. Chinhoyi High School (formerly Sinoia High School) is a Government high school located in Chinhoyi, Mashonaland West province, Zimbabwe. The school was established in 1960. The school is located 2 km north of Chinhoyi town centre on the A1 road to Karoi and Kariba. The school is about 122 km north-west of Harare. It is co-educational, with approximately 1000 students in 6 forms: Form one, Form two, Form three, Form four, Lower sixth, and Upper sixth. Zimbabwe Open University (ZOU) is an open distance education university in Zimbabwe. Established in 1999, ZOU is the only distance education university in the country that offers an opportunity for students to earn as they learn. Student enrollment at ZOU has been growing steadily from the time of its formation and in terms of enrollment it is the largest university in Zimbabwe. Chinhoyi University Of Technology
Chinhoyi University of Technology also known as CUT was established by an Act by the Parliament of Zimbabwe on 10 December 2001. It is located in the town of Chinhoyi in Mashonaland West about 120 km from Harare towards Lake Kariba and the Zambian border. It is among the first sights visible when approaching the town from Harare, across a bridge to the Chinhoyi General Hospital. The CUT hotel is located adjacent to the main campus. Provinces are constituent Polity, political entities of Zimbabwe. Zimbabwe currently has ten provinces, two of which are City, cities with provincial status. Zimbabwe is a unitary state, and its provinces exercise only the powers that the central government chooses to delegate.
