Makena Carr
Makena Carr (born May 19, 2000) is an American professional soccer player who most recently played as a full-back for USL Super League club Spokane Zephyr FC. She played college soccer for the Washington Huskies and the Saint Mary’s Gaels. Early life Carr grew up alongside three siblings in Newcastle, Washington. She attended Liberty High School, where she scored 32 goals and notched 12 assists to help the team win a state championship in 2017. Carr also won a state championship with her youth club team, Eastside FC, in the same year. Carr's efforts in 2017 were awarded as she was named the Star Times girls soccer player of the year and the state MVP. Makena Onjerika (born 1980s) is a Kenyan writer, who won the 2018 Caine Prize for African Writing, making her the fourth writer from her country to do so—following wins by Binyavanga Wainaina in 2002 and Yvonne Adhiambo Owuor in 2003, and Okwiri Oduor in 2013. Career In July 2018, Makena won the 2018 Caine Prize for African Writing – often described as Africa's leading literary award, for her short story entitled "Fanta Blackcurrant", published in '' Wasafiri '' magazine (2017). The Chair of the Caine Prize judging panel, award-winning Ethiopian-American novelist and writer Dinaw Mengestu, announced Makena as the winner of the £10,000 prize at an award dinner. Hydroxyprogesterone caproate, sold under the brand name Delalutin among others, is a medication used to reduce the risk of preterm birth in women pregnant with one baby who have a history of spontaneous preterm birth. In March 2023, the manufacturer, Covis Pharma, agreed to withdraw the drug from the US market. The approval of this drug substance was withdrawn by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in April 2023. In May 2024, the Pharmacovigilance Risk Assessment Committee of the European Medicines Agency recommended suspending the marketing authorizations of medications containing 17-hydroxyprogesterone caproate in the European Union. Mākena State Park is a beachside park in Makena, Hawaii, Makena on the island of Maui, Hawaii. Located just south of Wailea, Hawaii, Wailea, it contains three separate beaches and a dormant volcanic cinder cone. Makena Beach & Golf Resort Maui was a beach and golf resort in the Makena district, on the southern shore of Maui County, Hawaii, United States. The resort was formerly known as the Maui Prince Hotel, and was designed by Anbe, Aruga, and Ishizu architects. It was opened in August 1986 and subsequently sold in July 2010 to AREA Property Partners.
