Make Something!!
Make Something!! is an international series of creative workshops for teens founded by Aaron Rose and Stefani Relles. Since its inception in 2008, more than 2,000 high school students have taken part in Make Something!! workshops held in New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami, Portland and Tokyo. Working with public school art programs and youth mentoring organizations, Make Something!! brings together professional artists and aspiring teenagers with the intention of teaching hands-on practical creative skills. Curricula incorporate elements of art, design, music, fashion and film and past teachers include Mike Mills (director), Mike MillsTodd James KAWS (artist), Kaws, José Parlá, Jose Parla, Ed Templeton, Geoff Mcfedtridge, Cheryl Dunn, Money Mark, and more. Aaron Rose
Aaron Rose is an American film director, artist, exhibition curator and writer. Rose is known as the co-director of ''Beautiful Losers'', a film that focuses on an art movement which includes artists such as Barry McGee, Margaret Kilgallen, Steven "Espo" Powers, Chris Johanson, Harmony Korine and Shepard Fairey. Early life Rose grew up in Calabasas in the San Fernando Valley near Los Angeles and started attending punk and mod shows in the mid 1980s. The artwork of this scene inspired him to seek a career that facilitated creativity and artistic creation. From high school, he was accepted to Pasadena's Art Center College of Design, but dropped out after only one semester. Rose stated later "For me, art school seemed like a death sentence." Mike Mills (director)
Michael Chadbourne Mills is an American film and music video director, writer and graphic designer. He is best known for his independent films, ''Beginners'' (2010), '' 20th Century Women'' (2016), and '' C'mon, C'mon'' (2021). Mills received an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay nomination for ''20th Century Women''. Early life and education Michael Chadbourne Mills was born in Berkeley, California, the son of Janet L. Dowd, a draftsperson, and Paul Chadbourne Mills, an art historian and museum director. He graduated from Cooper Union in Lower Manhattan, New York City. Career Mike Mills has created music videos for acts including Moby, Yoko Ono and Air. KAWS (artist)
Brian Donnelly (born November 4, 1974), known professionally as Kaws (stylized as KAWS), is an American artist and designer. His work includes repeated use of a cast of figurative characters and motifs, some dating back to the beginning of his career in the 1990s, initially painted in 2D and later realized in 3D. José Parlá
José Parlá (born 1973 in Miami, Florida), is a Brooklyn-based contemporary artist whose work has been described as "lying between the boundary of abstraction and calligraphy." Parlá is publicly known for his permanent installations of large-scale paintings. In 2013 he painted the mural ''Nature of Language'' at the James B. Hunt Jr. Library at North Carolina State University, the mural ''Diary of Brooklyn'' at the Barclays Center, and a 90-foot mural ''ONE: Union of the Senses'' in the lobby of One World Trade Center. Parlá constructs his paintings improvisationally by layering materials, saying "I’m really interested in the way our lives are built up out of memory and history, and how we reflect that in our surroundings." Ed Templeton
Ed Templeton (born July 28, 1972) is an American professional skateboarder, contemporary artist, and photographer. He is the founder of the skateboard company, Toy Machine, a company that he continues to own and manage. He is based in Huntington Beach, California. Templeton was inducted into the Skateboard Hall of Fame in 2016. Early life Templeton was born in Garden Grove, Orange County, California, USA. His family lived in various places in Southern California before moving to Huntington Beach. He began skateboarding in 1985 in Huntington Beach, with friend, Jason Lee. Cheryl Dunn
Cheryl Dunn is an American documentary filmmaker and photographer. She has made two feature films, ''Everybody Street'' (2013) and ''Moments Like This Never Last'' (2020). She has had three books of photographs published: ''Bicycle Gangs of New York'' (2005), ''Some Kinda Vocation'' (2007) and ''Festivals are Good'' (2015). Early life and education Dunn was born in New Jersey. She graduated from Rutgers University in New Jersey with a BFA in art history. Career and work After moving to New York City in the mid 1980s, Dunn spent a large part of her career documenting city streets and the people who leave their mark there: graffiti writers, artists, skaters, boxers, bikers, protesters, and assorted characters. Money Mark
Mark Ramos Nishita (born February 10, 1960), known professionally as Money Mark, is an American producer and musician, best known for his collaborations with the Beastie Boys from 1992 until 2011. Early life Born in Detroit to a Japanese-Hawaiian father and a Chicano mother, Nishita moved with his family to Los Angeles, California when he was six. Career His first album '' Mark's Keyboard Repair'' (1995), was made up of keyboard driven pop-funk songs recorded at demo quality. Guy Ritchie used a song from the album in '' Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels''. This was followed up by the '' Third Version EP'' in 1996 and '' Push the Button'' in 1998, for which Mark received critical praise. Laforet
is a department store, residence, and museum complex located in the Harajuku commercial and entertainment district of the Shibuya, Tokyo, Shibuya neighborhood, in Tokyo, Japan. Constructed over part of the old Tokyo Central Church, a newer church located behind the store, Laforet was opened in 1978. It was built by developer Mori Building Company, Mori Building, that had developed several sites across Tokyo, as well as (subsequently) the Roppongi Hills Mori Tower, and at the time of opening it was one of the tallest buildings in Tokyo. The name Mori, in Japanese, is the word for "forest" (wikt:森#Japanese, 森), and the name of the complex was a pun derived from that, it being simply the French words "la wikt:forêt, forêt" for "the forest". The complex has six floors and two basements, divided into half levels; with 150 shops, and the Laforet Museum on the top floor. Footnotes
A note is a string of text placed at the bottom of a page in a book or document or at the end of a chapter, volume, or the whole text. The note can provide an author's comments on the main text or citations of a reference work in support of the text. Footnotes are notes at the foot of the page while endnotes are collected under a separate heading at the end of a chapter, volume, or entire work.
