Makaa Maka
''Makaa Maka!!'' (I said it because I said it) is the debut studio album by Ghanaian rapper Reggie Rockstone, released on 1 September 1997 through his independent label, Kassa Records. It features guest appearances from Cy Lover, Sammi B, Chocolate, Kwa-Cee, Zapp Mallet, Fredi Funkstone, Nananom, and Talking Drums. It is one of the first rapped hiplife albums to be composed and sung entirety in a Ghanaian language ( Twi). The album comes after his debut EP ''Tsoo Boi'', which came out in 1996. ''Makaa Maka!!'' fuses Western-influenced hip hop with traditional Ghanaian hiplife sounds, with some of the songs in the album cross-referencing older highlife songs. Hiplife
Hiplife is a Ghanaian musical style that fuses Ghanaian culture and hip hop. Recorded predominantly in the Ghanaian Akan language, hiplife is rapidly gaining popularity in the 2010s throughout West Africa and abroad, especially in the United Kingdom, United States, Canada and Germany. History Reginald Osei, known in music circles as Reggie Rockstone, is touted by some as the originator of hiplife; others disagree. Hausa Language
Hausa (; / ; Hausa Ajami, Ajami: ) is a Chadic language spoken primarily by the Hausa people in the northern parts of Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroon, Benin and Togo, and the southern parts of Niger, and Chad, with significant minorities in Ivory Coast. The University of Cape Coast (UCC) is a public collegiate university located in the historic town of Cape Coast in the central region of Ghana. George Darko
George Darko (12 January 1951 – 20 March 2024) was a Ghanaian burger-highlife musician, guitarist, vocalist, composer and songwriter, who was on the music scene from the late 1960s. A native of Akropong, Ghana, Darko was popular in the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s, and his songs are some of the most timeless and enduring highlife tracks in Ghana's music circles. Some of his contemporaries include Ben Brako, C.K. Mann, Daddy Lumba, Ernest Nana Acheampong, Nana Kwame Ampadu and Pat Thomas, among others. He was widely considered to be one of the pioneers of burger-highlife with his first hit "Ako Te Brofo" ("The Parrots Speak/Understand English") which was released in 1983. Polyrhythm () is the simultaneous use of two or more rhythms that are not readily perceived as deriving from one another, or as simple manifestations of the same meter.
