Majosha
Majosha (formerly stylized as Majôsha) was an American alternative rock band formed around early 1988 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. It featured Ben Folds on bass and keyboards, Millard Powers on guitar, Evan Olson on guitar, and Eddie Walker on drums. They released a self-produced EP, ''Party Night: Five Songs About Jesus'' in 1988, which contained four tracks, none of which were about Jesus. After gaining popularity, they released their first and only studio album, '' Shut Up and Listen to Majosha'' in 1989. The band disbanded in early 1990 and the members went on to pursue other projects. Ben Folds
Benjamin Scott Folds (born September 12, 1966) is an American singer-songwriter, musician, and composer, who is the first artistic advisor to the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., since May 2017. Folds was the frontman and pianist of the alternative rock trio Ben Folds Five from 1993 to 2000, and again in the early 2010s during their reunion. He has recorded a number of solo albums and performed live as a solo artist. He has also collaborated with musicians such as William Shatner, Regina Spektor, "Weird Al" Yankovic, and yMusic, and undertaken experimental songwriting projects with authors such as Nick Hornby and Neil Gaiman. ''Shut Up and Listen to Majosha'' is Majosha's first and only full-length album, released in 1989. This album never made it to CD, and was only ever available on vinyl and cassette. All songs were written by Ben Folds and Millard Powers except "Emaline", written by both Ben Folds and Evan Olson. Millard Powers
Avery Millard Powers III (born December 24, 1965) is an American musician, songwriter, record producer, and Grammy-nominated recording engineer. While a student at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in the 1980s, he collaborated with fellow student Ben Folds and with Alabama-based singer-songwriter Owsley, both of which he continued to work with as a musician and as a producer for the next several decades. Since 2005 he has played bass guitar in the band Counting Crows. Career Early history Powers studied piano for six years, and played trumpet in his middle school and high school bands for five years. He went on to study Guitar Performance and Communications at University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Evan Olson
Evan Scott Olson (born 1967) is an American rock singer and songwriter based in Greensboro, North Carolina. Professionally known since the early 2000s for his work as a songwriter for film and television, Olson received renewed interest in his earlier independent recording when one of his songs was the subject of a musical mystery featured on the podcast '' Reply All''. Early life Evan Scott Olson was born in West Point, New York during the “Summer Of Love.” His father was an officer in the Army Corps of Engineers. After moving from base-to-base for the first 12 years of his life, Olson's father retired and settled the family in North Carolina. ''Super D'' is an EP by Ben Folds, the last of 3 in a series released between ''Rockin' the Suburbs'' and ''Songs for Silverman''. It has three original songs and two covers: The Darkness' "Get Your Hands Off My Woman", and a live performance of Ray Charles' "Them That Got", included as a tribute to Charles who had recently died. Folds wrote "Kalamazoo" when he was 19, and knocked it around for years on demo tapes before inclusion here, adding a disco-like string section "because ecould". Chuck Folds
Chuck Folds is a musician living in North Carolina. He is the younger brother of the piano playing pop/ rock star Ben Folds. Chuck has played bass in a number of bands since the late 1980s, including Bus Stop with Evan Olson, Britt " Snuzz" Uzzell, and Eddie Walker. Bus Stop independently released 4 CDs and played the south-eastern U.S. for about 7 years, becoming one of the more popular bands in North Carolina during the early 1990s. After Bus Stop disbanded, Chuck joined Eddie Walker to back up Britt Uzzells in a band called Snuzz. Uzzell later played guitar with Ben Folds on the Rockin' the Suburbs tour, and played in International Orange with Ben's former bass player Robert Sledge (incidentally, Chuck and Robert were friends and that is how Robert got the gig in Ben Folds Five). Robert Sledge
Robert Sledge (born March 9, 1968) is an American musician, best known for his work with Ben Folds Five. Biography Robert Sledge began playing bass guitar at the age of eleven. His brother was playing guitar at his house so he also learned how to play the guitar at the same time. Before playing with Ben Folds Five he was bassist for the bands Toxic Popsickle and Lexx Luthor (with Godsmack's Sully Erna). Ben Folds Five Robert was a founding member of the piano-rock trio Ben Folds Five. Robert was the bass player for the group as well as taking up backup vocal duties on almost every song at the time. During the Reinhold Messner tour Robert began to use synths on stage as well as playing electric & acoustic basses until the band's break up in 2000. Darren Michael Jessee is an American drummer and singer-songwriter best known as a member of the alternative rock trio Ben Folds Five. Jessee has also worked as an instrumentalist for Sharon Van Etten and Hiss Golden Messenger and released two solo albums and four albums as singer and songwriter for indie band Hotel Lights. His first solo album, ''The Jane, Room 217'', was released on August 24th, 2018, to near-universal acclaim from critics.
