Maisy
''Maisy'' is a British preschool animated children's television series based on the book series of the same name by Lucy Cousins. The series aired from 11 February 1999 to 2 November 2000 on CITV and consisted of 26 episodes, with each episode being made up of four segments. It won the British Academy Children's Award for Pre-School Animation in 2000. Plot The show focuses on the lives of Maisy Mouse and all her friends. A mellow-voiced narrator narrates the action and communicates with the characters while the animals go through their paces communicating through unusual noises rather than traditional language. The characters are all meant to be between four and nine years old. The male narrator, however, can understand them easily because he is the only one who actually speaks. Elizabeth "Lucy" Cousins (born 1964) is a British author and illustrator of children's books. She is best known for her books featuring Maisy Mouse, referred to as the ''Maisy Series'' published from the 1990s onwards, from which the TV series '' Maisy'' was created in 1999. A new animated adaptation ''My Friend Maisy'' is currently in the works and was slated to be released in 2025 but has since delayed to 2026. Early life and education Cousins, whose parents were also artists, was interested in children's books from an early age. But it took until the end of six years in art college for her to decide that she wanted to create children's books. Cousins received BA Honours in graphic design from the Faculty of Arts and Architecture at Brighton Polytechnic. The British Academy Children and Young People Award for Preschool Animation is an award presented annually by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA). It is given to "animated content for children under six". Through the nineties, preschool animated productions were awarded alongside live-action series in a category named Preschool. ''Mama Mirabelle's Home Movies'' is an animated educational wildlife children's television series. The live action footage comes from the BBC Natural History Unit archives, as well as the National Geographic Society.
