Mais Lecture
The Mais Lecture has been hosted since 1978, on a mostly annual basis, by Bayes Business School (formerly Cass), part of City, University of London. The lecture is named in honour of Alan Mais, Baron Mais, Lord Mais, the 645th Lord Mayor of London, Lord Mayor of the City of London (1972–73), and Pro-Chancellor of City University (1979–84). Bayes Business School, formerly known as Cass Business School, is the business school of City St George's, University of London, located in St Luke's, London, St Luke's, just to the north of the City of London. Michel Camdessus
Michel Camdessus (born 1 May 1933) is a French economist who served as the seventh managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) from 1987 to 2000, making him the longest-serving in that position. Prior to his tenure at the IMF, he served as the Governor of the Banque de France from 1984 to 1987, after a brief term as Deputy Governor from August to November 1984 when elevated to the top position. One notable events during his tenure at the IMF was the 1997 East Asian financial crisis. His role during the crisis has drawn criticism, for not paying attention to the unique circumstances of the East Asian countries and blindly imposing the measures that were followed in Mexico, leading to considerable turmoil and rioting in countries such as Indonesia. Otmar Issing
Otmar Issing (born 27 March 1936 in Würzburg) is a German economist who served as a member of the Executive Board of the European Central Bank from 1998 to 2006 and concurrently as ECB chief economist. He developed the 'two-pillar' approach to monetary policy decision-making that the ECB has adopted. After leaving the executive board, Issing been serving as president of the Center for Financial Studies since 2006. Life Issing studied economics at the University of Würzburg from 1955 until 1960 with temporary studies in London and Paris. From 1960 to 1966 he worked as a research assistant at the University of Würzburg. He earned his PhD in 1961 and received his postdoctoral lecture qualification (habilitation) in 1965. Ernst Welteke
Ernst Welteke (born 21 August 1942) is a German economist and politician. He was the president of Deutsche Bundesbank from September 1999 until he resigned in 2004. Career Political career From 1974 until 1995, Welteke was a member of the Landtag of Hesse. Welteke served as State Minister for Economic Affairs in the government of Minister President Hans Eichel of Hesse from 1991 until 1994. In 1994, he took over as State Minister of Finance. Jonathan Sacks
Jonathan Henry Sacks, Baron Sacks (8 March 19487 November 2020) was an English Orthodox rabbi, philosopher, theologian, and author. Sacks served as the Chief Rabbi of the United Hebrew Congregations of the Commonwealth from 1991 to 2013. Hans Tietmeyer
Hans Tietmeyer (18 August 1931 – 27 December 2016) was a German economist and regarded as one of the foremost experts on international financial matters. He was president of Deutsche Bundesbank from 1993 until 1999 and remained afterwards one of the most important figures in finance of the European Union. Early life Hans Tietmeyer was born on 18 August 1931 as the second of 11 children of a Roman Catholic family in Metelen (Westphalia). Edward George
Edward Alan John George, Baron George (16 September 1938 – 18 April 2009), known as Eddie George, or sometimes as "Steady Eddie", was Governor of the Bank of England from 1993 to 2003 and sat on the board of NM Rothschild and Sons.
