Mainos-TV
MTV3 (, ) is a Finnish commercial television channel owned and operated by the media company MTV Oy, originally launched on 13 August 1957 as a programming block, becoming its own channel on 1 January 1993. It had the biggest audience share of all Finnish TV channels until Yle TV1 (from Yle) took the lead. MTV actually stands for Mainos-TV (literally "Advertisement-TV", i.e. "Commercial TV), due to the channel carrying advertising for revenue. Number 3 was added later, when the channel was allocated the third nationwide television channel and it generally became known as "Channel Three"—Finnish Broadcasting Company's Yle TV1 and Yle TV2 being the first two—and also to distinguish it from the later MTV Finland, which is a Finnish version of Paramount's MTV channel. Tesvisio
Tesvisio (earlier TES-TV) was the first television channel in Finland. It began regular broadcasts on March 21, 1956 and continued broadcasting until March 1965, when it was turned into Yle TV2. The channel began as a television experiment by (later ), an association of radio and electronics engineers who had begun test broadcasts as early as 20 April 1955, from premises rented from the Helsinki University of Technology. Their first public broadcast, which was aired on 24 May 1955, is considered the first broadcast in Finnish television history. Regular broadcasts began in 1956 after the foundation began supporting the project; Yleisradio was then more focused on building and expanding its FM radio network and considered television to be less of a priority. MTV Osakeyhtiö, Oy (formerly Oy Mainos-TV-Reklam Ab) is a Finnish media company owned by Telia Company through TV4 Media (formerly known as Bonnier Broadcasting). The company owns the largest commercial television channel in Finland, MTV3. On 20 July 2018, Telia Company announced the acquisition proposal of the Bonnier Broadcasting, which includes this company, for 9.2 billion SEK (roughly US$1 billion). The acquisition was completed on December 2, 2019. On 25 February 2025, Schibsted Media announced the acquisition proposal of the TV4 Media, which includes this company, for 6.55 billion SEK. The acquisition expected to end in the third quarter of 2025, following regulatory approval. Kolmoskanava
Kolmoskanava (also known as TV3 and informally as Kolmonen) was a Finnish free-to-air television station owned and operated by Oy Kolmostelevisio Ab, a joint venture between MTV Oy, Yle and Nokia. The latter's interest in television operations stemmed from the fact that the channel was originally planned to be an encrypted, over-the-air channel, as it was also involved in receiver manufacturing at the time, especially in the European hotel TV business; it is said that the company would manufacture decoders for the channel. The channel was launched on December 1, 1986, and closed on the New Year's Eve night of December 31, 1992 with MTV3 starting its broadcasts simultaneously. Yle TV1 (, ) is a Finnish television channel owned and operated by Finnish public broadcaster Yle. It is the second-oldest television channel in Finland, after TES-TV, and is the oldest currently existing television channel in the country.
