State Route 153 (SR 153) is part of Maine's system of numbered state highways. It runs from an intersection with SR 6 and SR 16 to an intersection with Smith Lane near Sebec Lake in Dover-Foxcroft. The route is also known as Greeley's Landing Road. Route description SR 153 begins at its southern terminus in Dover-Foxcroft at an intersection with SR 6 / SR 16 (just north of its intersection with SR 15). It then heads north for just less than and ends at intersection with Cotton Brook Road south of Sebec Lake. Dover-Foxcroft, Maine
Dover-Foxcroft is the largest town in and the seat of Piscataquis County, Maine, United States. The population was 4,422 at the 2020 census. The town is located near the geographic center of the state. History Dover-Foxcroft was originally two towns, Dover and Foxcroft, separated by the Piscataquis River. Dover was to the south of the river, and Foxcroft was to the north. Dover was purchased from Massachusetts by Boston merchants Charles Vaughan and John Merrick, both of whom had emigrated from England. It was first permanently settled in 1803 by Eli Towne from Temple, New Hampshire, then incorporated on January 19, 1822. Agriculture was the principal early occupation, producing potatoes, corn and grain. Originally known as T5 R7 NWP, Foxcroft was one of five towns conveyed by Massachusetts in 1796 to Bowdoin College. Piscataquis County is a county located in the U.S. state of Maine. As of the 2020 census, its population was 16,800, making it Maine's least-populous county. Its county seat is Dover-Foxcroft. The county was incorporated on March 23, 1838, taken from the western part of Penobscot County and the eastern part of Somerset County. It is named for an Abenaki word meaning "branch of the river" or "at the river branch." It is located at the geographic center of Maine. Its western terminus is at the Canada–United States border near Sandy Bay (a terminus it shares with U.S. Route 201), where it connects to Quebec Route 173. SR 16 runs from the New Hampshire state line (signed as NH-16) at Wentworth Location (near Lake Aziscohos) in the west to Orono at the eastern terminus. State Route 15 (SR 15) is a numbered state highway in Maine, United States. SR 15 runs over from Stonington in the south to Jackman in the north. Route description SR 15 begins in the town of Stonington, at the intersection of Main Street, School Street, and West Main Street. The route proceeds north out of Stonington and through Deer Isle en route to the mainland of Maine. Upon leaving the islands to the south via the Deer Isle Bridge, SR 15 meets SR 175 and forms an approximately concurrency with it. SR 15 then splits off 175 and then joins SR 176 farther to the north. The two routes continue into Blue Hill, where SR 15 turns northward, while 176 goes to the east.
