Theodore Harold Maiman (July 11, 1927 – May 5, 2007) was an American engineer and physicist who is widely credited with the invention of the laser.Johnson, John Jr. (May 11, 2008). "Theodore H. Yossi Maiman ( he, יוסי מימן; 8 February 1946 − 9 October 2021), also known as Josef Maiman, was a German-born Israeli businessman. He was the founder and owner of the Merhav Group, and a shareholder of the East Mediterranean Gas Company. He was a majority shareholder of Channel 10, an Israeli television channel. He was the owner, chairman, chief executive officer and president of the Ampal-American Israel Corporation. Early life Yossi Maiman was born in a displaced persons camp in Landsberg am Lech, Bavaria, Germany. He was of Polish Jewish descent on his maternal side. His mother, Esfira Maiman, is a Holocaust survivor from Łódź; she escaped from the Warsaw Ghetto and hid in Grodzisk Mazowiecki during World War II. Her first husband was murdered by the Nazis. Ohad Maiman
Ohad Maiman was born in Israel in 1977; upon completing his studies he served for 3 years in the Israel Defense Forces, traveled extensively in the Far East and South America, eventually settling down in New York City in 1999. In 2003, he graduated in philosophy and visual arts from Columbia University. He currently lives and works in New York City. Upon his graduation, Ohad Maiman has co-founded A Matter of Substance with Eytan Rockaway - a cross platform media/entertainment entity spanning the fields of music, film, and television. In 2007, the company's focus shifted to a new TV Channel - Amos TV. Maiman has shown his photography in various group shows, and a solo show at the Richard Avedon studio in December 2005. His photographs and writings from '04-'07 are now collected in the trilogy 'Theory of Wants', a book published October 2008 by Damiani Editore, along a solo show at Milk Gallery.
