Maiden Speech
A maiden speech is the first speech given by a newly elected or appointed member of a legislature or parliament. Traditions surrounding maiden speeches vary from country to country. In many Westminster system governments, there is a convention that maiden speeches should be relatively uncontroversial, often consisting of a general statement of the politician's beliefs and background rather than a partisan comment on a current topic. This convention is not always followed, however. For example, the maiden speeches of Pauline Hanson in the Australian House of Representatives in 1996, Fraser Anning in the Australian Senate in 2018 and Richard Nixon in the United States House of Representatives in 1947, broke the tradition. Legislature
A legislature (, ) is a deliberative assembly with the legal authority to make laws for a political entity such as a country, nation or city on behalf of the people therein. They are often contrasted with the executive and judicial powers of government. Legislatures can exist at different levels of government–national, state/provincial/regional, local, even supranational (such as the European Parliament). Countries differ as to what extent they grant deliberative assemblies at the subnational law-making power, as opposed to purely administrative responsibilities. Kirith Entwistle
Kirith Entwistle (née Kaur Ahluwalia; born c. 1991), is a British Labour Party politician serving as the Member of Parliament for Bolton North East since the 2024 general election. Background Kirith Entwistle was born in Southall, London. Her grandparents are Kenyan Indians who migrated to the United Kingdom during the 1970s. Her father, originally from Delhi, moved to the UK in the 1980s. Entwistle graduated from the University of Portsmouth in 2012 with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in American Studies. The 2024 United Kingdom general election was held on Thursday, 4 July 2024 to elect all 650 members of the House of Commons of the United Kingdom, House of Commons. Social Democratic And Labour Party
The Social Democratic and Labour Party (SDLP; ) is a social democratic and Irish nationalist political party in Northern Ireland. The SDLP currently has eight members in the Northern Ireland Assembly ( MLAs) and two members of Parliament (MPs) in the House of Commons of the United Kingdom. Victoria Grace Ford ( Pollock, 21 September 1967) is a British politician who was the Member of Parliament (MP) for Chelmsford from 2017 to 2024.
