The team shared its name with the mascot of Struthers High School, whose gym they shared. Rob Spon coached the Wildcats, who went 12-7 in their first season. The Wildcats were led in scoring by Rick McFadden, who tied for ninth in the league with 22.8 ppg. Three players made the all-star team, McFadden, Lawrence Culver, and TeJay Anderson. With no notice, the Wildcats were removed from the IBL schedule in early 2006, having been replaced by the Lansing Capitals. International Basketball League (2005-)
The International Basketball League (IBL) was a semi-professional men's basketball league featuring teams from the West Coast of the United States. In 2010 the Albany Legends became the first team in the Northeastern United States to join. The IBL also sometimes featured teams from China and Japan which temporarily relocated to the United States for the IBL season. The IBL season typically ran from the end of March through July. History Founded by Portland area sports promoter Mikal Duilio, the league featured rules designed to create a fast-paced, high-scoring brand of basketball. Duilio first began planning for the league with a series of test games in Portland and Seattle in November 2003. Struthers is a city in eastern Mahoning County, Ohio, United States, along the Mahoning River. The population was 10,063 at the 2020 United States census, 2020 census. History John Struthers, from Washington County, Pennsylvania, purchased of Poland Township, Mahoning County, Ohio, Poland Township land in 1798 and gave it the name Marbletown. John Struthers owned this land until the War of 1812 came around when he and his family suffered financial ruin. The land was dormant until 1865 when it was purchased by Thomas Struthers. Thomas bought this land to honor his father and he was instrumental in bringing industry and railroads to the town. Eventually, the town name was changed to Struthers by popular vote.
