Mahindananda Aluthgamage
Mahindananda Aluthgamage (born 21 November 1964) was a Sri Lankan politician and the Minister of Sports. He has also served as Deputy Minister of Power and Energy. He was elected as a Member of Parliament representing the Kandy Electoral District. He was educated at Gangasiripura Vidyalaya Gampola and Royal College Colombo. He lost his position as a minister in 2015 when President Mahinda Rajapaksha was defeated in the 2015 presidential election. He is well known for his ability to speak Sinhala, Tamil and English fluently and gained popularity among the Tamil community for his political rallies in Northern Province. On 29 May 2025, Aluthgamage was convicted of corruption by the Colombo High Court and was sentenced to twenty years of rigorous imprisonment. The Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs (; ) is a ministry in the Government of Sri Lanka whose role is to promote the role of sports in Sri Lankan culture and society. As of 27 November 2023, Harin Fernando is the Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs, an appointment to the Cabinet of Sri Lanka. 2024 Sri Lankan Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Sri Lanka on 14 November 2024 to elect 225 Member of Parliament (Sri Lanka), members to the new parliament. High Court Of Sri Lanka
The High Court in Sri Lanka is the only court which exercises the jurisdiction of the court of first instance and the appellate jurisdiction with both civil and criminal jurisdiction. The International Cricket Council (ICC) is the global Sports governing body, governing body of cricket. It was founded as the Imperial Cricket Conference in 1909 by representatives from Australia, England, and South Africa. Arjuna Ranatunga
Deshamanya Arjuna Ranatunga (; ; born 1 December 1963), is a Sri Lankan politician and former cricketer, who was the 1996 Cricket World Cup winning captain for Sri Lanka, and scored the winning boundary in the final. He is regarded as the pioneer who lifted the Sri Lankan cricket team from underdog status to a leading force in the cricketing world. After retirement, he worked in many posts of Sri Lanka Cricket administration. 2020 Sri Lankan Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Sri Lanka on 5 August 2020 to elect 225 members to Sri Lanka's 16th Parliament. 16,263,885 people were eligible to vote in the election, 31.95% of whom were young voters. The incumbent Sri Lanka People's Freedom Alliance coalition claimed a landslide victory in the election, winning 145 seats, while Samagi Jana Balawegaya won 54 seats, Tamil National Alliance won 10 seats and National People's Power won 3 seats. The main opposition United National Party suffered its worst showing in history following a split over party leadership, finishing in fifth place with only one seat. Kumar Sangakkara
Kumar Chokshanada Sangakkara (; born 27 October 1977) is a Sri Lankan former professional cricketer who represented Sri Lanka from 2000 to 2015. A former captain in all formats. He was born in Matale, Central Province. In first-class cricket, he played for Nondescripts Cricket Club from 1997–98 to 2013–14 and for Surrey County Cricket Club from 2015 to 2017. Denagamage Praboth Mahela de Silva Jayawardene (; born 27 May 1977) is a Sri Lankan former professional cricketer and captain of the Sri Lanka national cricket team, Sri Lankan national cricket team. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest batsmen from Sri Lankan cricket. During the time of his captaincy Jayawardene led his national team to be the winners of the 2008 Asia Cup. 2011 Cricket World Cup
The 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup was the tenth Cricket World Cup. It was played in India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, while the latter hosted World Cup matches for the first time. The Sri Lanka men's national cricket team, (; ) nicknamed The Lions, represents Sri Lanka in men's international cricket.
