Mahenge Plateau
The Mahenge Mountains are a mountain range in Ulanga District, Morogoro Region, Tanzania. The town of Mahenge is located in the northeastern mountains. The mountains are southeast of Iringa, in the Eastern miombo woodlands ecoregion. Geography The Mahenge Mountains cover an area of 2802.29 km². The Mahenge mountains are an outlier of the Eastern Arc Mountains. The Kilombero Plain lies to the north and west, and separate the Mahenge Mountains from the Udzungwa Mountains. Selous Game Reserve lies to the east. The Mbarika Mountains lie to the south and southwest. Geology The mountains are made up of proterozoic rocks, including schist and marble, of the Mozambique Belt. Spinels are mined from the Ipanko deposit. Ulanga District (Mahenge District) is one of the six districts of the Morogoro Region of Tanzania. the administrative seat is in Mahenge. It covers of which is in forest reserves. Spinel
Spinel () is the magnesium/aluminium member of the larger spinel group of minerals. It has the formula in the cubic crystal system. Eastern Arc Forests
The Eastern Arc forests is a montane tropical moist forest ecoregion of eastern Africa. The ecoregion comprises several separate highland areas above 800 meters in Kenya, and (mostly) Tanzania. Setting The Eastern Arc forests extend across a total of 23,800 km2 (9,200 sq. mi.) of mountainous landscape from the Taita Hills on Kenya-Tanzania border through central Tanzania to the Udzungwa Mountains in the southwest. Dombeya Amaniensis
''Dombeya amaniensis'' is a flowering plant species found only in Tanzania. Formerly placed in the family Sterculiaceae, this artificial assemblage is now included in the Malvaceae by most authors. Its relationships are not well determined. It seems to belong to an ill-defined clade containing congeners from eastern Africa and the Madagascar region, such as '' D. tiliacea'' and several species from the Mascarenes. Miombo
The Miombo woodland is a tropical and subtropical grasslands, savannas, and shrublands biome (in the World Wide Fund for Nature scheme) located primarily in Central Africa. It includes four woodland savanna ecoregions (listed below) characterized by the dominant presence of ''Brachystegia'' and '' Julbernardia'' species of trees, and has a range of climates ranging from humid to semi-arid, and tropical to subtropical or even temperate. The trees characteristically shed their leaves for a short period in the dry season to reduce water loss and produce a flush of new leaves just before the onset of the wet season with rich gold and red colours masking the underlying chlorophyll, reminiscent of autumn colours in the temperate zone.
