Magsingal
Magsingal, officially the Municipality of Magsingal (; ) is a 1st class municipality in the province of Ilocos Sur, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 31,308 people. Etymology The name of the municipality came from the term "''Mayisingal''," an Ilocano term which means "to be moved." It was applied when the belltower was moved from a previous location to its current site. Captain Juan de Salcedo had a hand in founding the municipality; but before he reached the current site of the poblacion, he came to a village called ''Malongon'', about half a kilometer to the south. The leader of the village refused Salcedo's request to establish a municipality there. He instead suggested that Salcedo establish the town a half kilometer north of the village, and the belltower be moved to that site, hence the origin of the town's name. Magsingal Church
Saint William the Hermit Parish Church, also known as San Guillermo Hermitanio Parish Church or Magsingal Church, is a Roman Catholic church in Magsingal, Ilocos Sur, Philippines. It is under the Archdiocese of Nueva Segovia. The church is the second one established within the municipality. The original church was built in the 18th century by the Augustinians. It features an intricate retablo, a cream and white three storey facade and a reredos. An older structure named the Parish of William the Hermit was established in 1676 and was built in 1692 within the area but was destroyed in an earthquake in 1723. Only its bell tower remains that dates back to 1732. The present church was built in 1827. The church also has a museum which displays Ilocano religious, agricultural and industrial images and items. Itneg
The Itneg people also known as "Tinguian" or "Tingguian" are an Austronesian ethnic group indigenous to the Philippines. They are part of the broader Cordilleran or Igorot group, despite the Itnegs themselves not identifying as such. The Itneg primarily inhabit the Cordillera Administrative Region in northern Luzon, particularly in the provinces of Abra, Kalinga, Apayao, and Mountain Province. The group is further divided into nine distinct sub-groups. They are also present in the upland areas of the Ilocos Region, notably in Nueva Era, Ilocos Norte and Ilocos Sur. Juan De Salcedo
Juan de Salcedo (; 1549 – 11 March 1576) was a Spanish conquistador. He was the grandson of Spanish general Miguel López de Legazpi. Salcedo was one of the soldiers who accompanied the Spanish conquest to the Philippines in 1565. He joined the Spanish military in 1564 at age 15, on their voyage of exploration to the East Indies and the Pacific, in search of rich resources such as gold and spice, and to find a passage to the islands were the previous Spanish expeditions led by Ferdinand Magellan had landed in 1521, and Ruy López de Villalobos in 1543.
