Magnetized (album)
''Magnetized'' is the third studio album by Johnny Hates Jazz released on May 24, 2013. This album was the band's first album in 22 years, after '' Tall Stories'' and the departure of members Calvin Hayes and Phil Thornalley, and the return of founding vocalist Clark Datchler. The album, was followed by the release of the same-titled lead single, along with a corresponding music video. The album peaked at #102 in the UK sales chart and #23 in the UK indie albums chart. Critical reception Upon release ''Magnetized'' received highly favorable reviews from critics. Radio Creme Brulee stated that the album might be 2013's "pop album of the year". Nick Pett of ''Backseat Mafia'' gave the album a more mixed review, but later said that the album "isn't all bad.." Johnny Hates Jazz
Johnny Hates Jazz are a British pop band, currently consisting of Clark Datchler (songwriter, vocalist, keyboards) and Mike Nocito (guitarist, bassist, producer, engineer). In April 1987, they achieved international success with their single " Shattered Dreams". Early career Both Datchler and Nocito were born into musical families. Datchler's father, Fred, was a member of two chart-topping bands from the 1950s. The Stargazers had the distinction of being the first British band to reach No. 1 on the UK Singles Chart. As part of the Polkadots, Fred Datchler sang backing vocals for Frank Sinatra and Petula Clark. Nocito hails from an American family based in Europe with the U.S. armed forces. Neil Taylor (guitarist)
Neil Martin Taylor (born 26 January 1961) is an English guitarist, best known for his long-time affiliation with Robbie Williams and for his work with Tears for Fears. Career Taylor started playing in local bands in his youth before joining Neon as a session musician in the early 1980s. During this time he met Curt Smith and Roland Orzabal who, after founding Tears for Fears, asked Taylor to tour with them and play guitar tracks for their second album, ''Songs from the Big Chair'' (1985), and their third album, '' The Seeds of Love'' (1989). Taylor toured with the band several times between 1983 and 1990 and appeared on their live concert videos '' In My Mind's Eye'' (1984) and '' Going to California'' (1990). Simon Fowler (born Simon R. Fowler in 1954) is an English photographer/director, known for his work with many singers and bands. Early life and career Fowler was born in Hastings. After completing an Art Foundation course at High Wycombe College of Art and Technology he then studied photography at ''Amersham College of Art and Technology''. In 1974 he got his first job as a darkroom assistant at London Features International a photographic syndication agency founded in 1971 by businessman John Halsall and photographer Mike Putland. Stylorouge is a graphic design studio based in Yalding, Kent, formed in London by creative director Rob O'Connor in 1981. Katrina and the Waves were a British Rock music, rock band formed in Cambridge in 1981, widely known for their 1985 hit "Walking on Sunshine (Katrina and the Waves song), Walking on Sunshine". They won the 1997 Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Love Shine a Light". Frank E. Ricotti (born 31 January 1949) is an English jazz vibraphonist and percussionist. Early life and education Frank E. Ricotti was born in St Pancras, London, England; his father was a drummer. Bill Ashton, founder of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra (NYJO), was an early mentor. As a teenager, Ricotti played vibraphone and learned composition and arranging in the NYJO, and later attended Trinity College of Music between 1967 and 1970. ABC are an English pop band which originated in Sheffield in 1980, evolving from the earlier ensemble Vice Versa. They are best known as pioneers of the new wave and sophisti-pop movements, blending synth-pop with orchestral and jazz influences. Elbow are an English rock band formed in Bury, Greater Manchester, in 1990. The band consists of Guy Garvey (lead vocals, guitar), Craig Potter (keyboard, piano, backing vocals), Mark Potter (guitar, backing vocals), Pete Turner (bass guitar, backing vocals), and Alex Reeves (drums). David Rhodes (guitarist)
David John Sydney Rhodes (born 2 May 1956) is an English guitarist, singer, songwriter and long-time collaborator of Peter Gabriel. He was the guitarist and vocalist for the British rock band Random Hold from 1976 to 1980, and has been the principal studio and touring guitarist for Gabriel since 1980. Anne Dudley
Anne Jennifer Dudley (née Beckingham; born 7 May 1956) is an English composer, keyboardist, conductor and pop musician. She was the first BBC Concert Orchestra's Composer in Association in 2001. She has worked in the classical and pop genres, as a film composer, and was one of the core members of the synth-pop band Art of Noise. In 1998, Dudley won an Oscar for Best Original Musical or Comedy Score for ''The Full Monty''.
