Magne Flem (3 February 1908 – 30 November 1995) was a Norwegian journalist and newspaper editor. He was born in Ã…lesund, and was a brother of Dagfinn Flem. He edited the newspaper ''Sunnmørsposten'' from 1946 to 1983, the first period together with his brother. Ålesund () sometimes spelled Aalesund in English, is a municipality in Møre og Romsdal County, Norway. It is part of the traditional district of Sunnmøre and the centre of the Ålesund Region. The town of Ålesund is the administrative centre of Ålesund Municipality, as well as the principal shipping town of the Sunnmøre district. The town is a sea port and is noted for its concentration of Art Nouveau architecture. Although sometimes internationally spelled by its older name ''Aalesund'', this spelling is obsolete in Norwegian. However, the local football club Aalesunds FK still carries that spelling, having been founded before the official change. The municipality is the 184th largest by area out of the 356 municipalities in Norway. Ålesund is the 13th most populous municipality in Norway with a population of 67,114. ''Sunnmørsposten'' () is a newspaper published by Polaris Media in Ålesund, Norway. History and profile In its early days, ''Sunnmørsposten'' competed with several other local newspapers, including ''Aalesunds Avis'' (1917–1957), ''Aalesunds blad'' (1871–1895), '' Aalesunds Handels- og Sjøfartstidende'' (1857–1904), '' Aalesunds Socialdemokrat'' (1908–1910), and '' Arbeidernes blad'' (1898). Until May 2006 ''Sunnmørsposten'' was published in broadsheet format. At the time of its transition to compact format, it was one of the last newspapers in Norway to be published in broadsheet. Published in compact format ( tabloid) six days a week, the paper consists of two sections; one for local news, sports and classified ads, and one for culture, weather, opinions and editorials and obituaries. Ivar Flem
Ivar Elias Kornelius Flem (8 January 1865 – 1948) was a Norwegian newspaper editor. He was chief editor of the newspaper ''Sunnmørsposten'' for nearly fifty years. Personal life Flem was born on 8 January 1865 in Haram to Martinius Ingebrigtsen Flem and Oline Blindheim. In 1897 He married Nikoline Susanna Landmark. He was the father of Dagfinn Flem and Magne Flem. Flem died in 1948. Career Flem passed examen artium in 1885, and studied philology. In 1894 he became editor of the Ålesund based newspaper ''Sunnmørsposten''. In 1896 he bought the newspaper and was both publisher and editor the next fifty years, except during the German occupation of Norway, when he was dismissed from his position as editor by the Nazi authorities. ''Sunnmørsposten'' became a daily newspaper from 1905, and was eventually regarded among the most important newspapers in the region. Dagfinn Flem (28 July 1906 – 28 May 1976) was a Norwegian politician, newspaper editor, non-fiction writer and translator. He was born in Borgund, a son of Ivar Flem and Nikoline Landmark, and a brother of Magne Flem. He edited the newspaper ''Sunnmørsposten'' from 1946, along with his brother. The occupation of Norway by Nazi Germany during the Second World War began on 9 April 1940 after Operation Weserübung. Conventional armed resistance to the German invasion ended on 10 June 1940, and Nazi Germany controlled Norway until the capitulation of German forces in Europe on 8 May 1945.
