Maghull FC
Maghull Football Club are a football club based in Maghull, Merseyside, England. They are currently members of the North West Counties Football League Division One North, having previously played in the West Cheshire League Division One. History Maghull were founded in 1921, and situated 8 miles north of Liverpool on the main A59 Preston Road, they played their home games at Deyes Lane, just one mile away from their present Old Hall Lane ground. They joined the Lancashire Combination in 1972 and then the Cheshire County League six years later. During this time they reached the third round of the FA Vase. In 1984 they became one of the founder members of the North West Counties League and were North West Counties Division 2 Champions in 1993 but were not promoted due to ground grading issues. Maghull
Maghull ( ) is a town and civil parish in Sefton, Merseyside, England. The town is north of Liverpool and west of Kirkby. The town is also the location of Ashworth Hospital. Maghull had a population of 20,444 at the 2011 Census. Housing in the town is almost entirely a 20th-century settlement of semi-detached and detached housing although remains of the original town do exist. The town has had an elected council since the Local Government Act 1894 when the government set up a network of local governance across England. Following the Local Government Act 1974, the council changed its name from a parish to a town council. Etymology It has been proposed by Dr Eilert Ekwall that the name Maghull may have been derived from the Celtic word ''magos'' referring to a plain or field, and the Old English ''halh'' referring to a corner or nook, giving the meaning of a "flat land in a bend". Neil Murphy
Neil Anthony Murphy (born 19 May 1980 in Liverpool) is an English former professional footballer, who plays for Maghull FC, he also still works part-time as a coach for Liverpool's academy. He has represented England at under-17 and under-20 levels. Club career Murphy began his career as a trainee with Liverpool, turning professional in August 1999 at Liverpool, previously he had played in the same youth sides as Steven Gerrard, Michael Owen and Jamie Carragher. He joined Luton Town on loan in February 2000, but returned to Liverpool without making his debut. Released by Liverpool at the end of the season, he joined Third Division club Blackpool on a free transfer in July 2000. He made his debut on 12 August 2000 as a substitute for Mike Newell as Blackpool won 3–1 at home to Hull City. Connor Steven Randall (born 21 October 1995) is an English professional footballer who plays as a Defender/Midfielder for club Ross County where he is also club captain. Club career Early career Randall was born and raised in Melling, Merseyside. He attended Melling Primary School and Maghull High School. Randall played for Waddicar Dolphins (managed by his father) from a young age and it was there at the age of six he was spotted and signed for Liverpool; during his academy career, Randall captained the Under-18s and was a regular for the under-21 team from 2013. Adam Hammill
Adam James Hammill (born 25 January 1988) is an English footballer who plays as a winger for Maghull. Hammill represented England U21s, though he also qualified to play for the Republic of Ireland at international level. Hammill is a product of the Liverpool academy, but failed to make a league appearance for the club at senior level, before leaving to join Championship side Barnsley in 2009. After a successful period at Barnsley, he entered the Premier League when he moved to Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2011, with whom he remained until 2013. In 2015, Hammill returned to Barnsley on a short-term contract but remained until 2018. Liam Watson (born 21 May 1970) is an English former professional footballer and current club director of Southport Football Club. Playing career Professional career Having plied his trade at Maghull and Burscough, Watson finally made his mark at Warrington Town where John Beck signed him for Preston North End for a fee of £60,000. This smashed Warrington Town's transfer fee received record which had only been set a few weeks earlier when Neil Whalley also moved to Deepdale for just £25,000. He scored in his début after replacing the injured Micky Norbury in a 5–2 win over Rotherham United on 27 March 1993 and then netted again in his next two appearances against Port Vale and Huddersfield Town.
