Madonna Del Ceppo
The ''Madonna del Ceppo'' is a painting by the Italian Renaissance painter Filippo Lippi, commissioned to him between 1452 and 1453. It is housed in the Civic Museum of Prato, Italy (though exposed in the local Museum of Wall Painting, in the Palazzo degli Alberti). The name derives from the fact that it was located over a pit of the garden of Pia Casa dei Ceppi in Palazzo Datini, in Prato. Filippo Lippi
Filippo Lippi ( – 8 October 1469), also known as Lippo Lippi, was an Italian Renaissance painter of the Quattrocento (fifteenth century) and a Carmelite priest. He was an early Renaissance master of a painting workshop, who taught many painters. Sandro Botticelli and Francesco di Pesello (called Pesellino) were among his most distinguished pupils. His son, Filippino Lippi, also studied under him and assisted in some late works. Biography Lippi was born in Florence in 1406 to Tommaso, a butcher, and his wife. He was orphaned when he was two years old and sent to live with his aunt, Mona Lapaccia. Because she was too poor to rear him, she placed him in the neighboring Carmelite convent when he was eight years old. There, he started his education. Palazzo Datini
250px, External frescoes. Palazzo Datini is a late 14th-century palace in Prato, Tuscany, central Italy. In 2015, the palace housed the offices of the Fondazione Casa Pia dei Ceppi, a charitable organization and a museum and archive. History Begun in 1383 as the residence of merchant Francesco Datini, it was subsequently decorated by artists such as Agnolo Gaddi and Niccolò di Pietro Gerini, both internally and externally, although the latter paintings are rather damaged. It once included, in front of the current façade, a botanical garden which was among the first ones in Italy. In 1409 the palazzo was visited by Pope Alexander V and Louis II of Anjou, King of Naples. After Datini's death, all the papers from his archive were shut in a wall of the buildings; they were discovered, nearly intact, in the 19th century and are now housed, for a total of some 150,000 documents, in the building. Francesco di Marco Datini ( – 16 August 1410) was an Italian merchant born in Prato. Datini is notable for having implemented the first partnership system in business in 1383. Biography Datini was one of four children of Marco di Datino and Monna Vermiglia, who, along with two of their children, both died as a result of the Black Death in 1348. __NOTOC__ After his parents' death, he was raised by a woman whom he called his "substitute mother."
