Madhu Dandavate
Madhu Dandavate (21 January 1924 – 12 November 2005) was an Indian physicist and socialist politician, who served as Minister of Railways in the Morarji Desai ministry, and as Minister of Finance in the V P Singh ministry. Born in Ahmednagar, Bombay Presidency, Dandavate studied and was employed as a physicist in Bombay, before participating in the Quit India Movement in 1942. After independence, he served as a Member of Parliament from Rajapur in Maharashtra from 1971 to 1991. As an opposition politician, Dandavate was jailed during the Emergency. Serving as Railway Minister from 1977 to 1979, he initiated a number of improvements, most notably providing more comfortable cushioned seats to second-class passengers, a measure that "helped hundreds of millions of people". Ahmednagar, officially Ahilyanagar, is a city in, and the headquarters of, the Ahmednagar district, Maharashtra, India. Ahmednagar has several dozen buildings and sites from the Nizam Shahi period. Ahmednagar Fort, once considered almost impregnable, was used by the British Raj, British to house Jawaharlal Nehru (the first prime minister of India) and other Indian Nationalists before Indian independence. Pramila Dandavate
Pramila Dandavate (Devanagari: ) (1928–2001) was a political activist from Mumbai, associated with the Praja Socialist Party and later with the Janata Party. Early life and background Pramila Dandavate was born on 27 August 1928 born to Janardan and Lakshmibai Karande. Her father was a gynaecologist whose clinic and maternity hospital were located near the Girgaum Chowpatty and who alo served as the President of the Mumbai Obstetrics & Gynecological Society from 1950 to 1952. Dandavate was associated with the ''Swastik League'' during her childhood. The ''Swastik League'' was an organisation established by M. R. Jayakar. Praja Socialist Party
The Praja Socialist Party, abbreviated as PSP, was an Indian political party. It was founded in 1952 when the Socialist Party, led by Jayaprakash Narayan, Rambriksh Benipuri, Acharya Narendra Deva and Basawon Singh (Sinha), merged with the Kisan Mazdoor Praja Party led by J. B. Kripalani (former president of the Indian National Congress and a close associate of Jawaharlal Nehru). The PSP led the cabinet under Pattom A.
