Madawala S. Rathnayake
Rathnayake Arachchilage Sirisena Rathnayake (5 February 1929 – 7 January 1997), popularly as Madawala S. Rathnayake, was a Sri Lankan journalist, lyricist, poet, and novelist. Considered one of the iconic and prolific lyricists ever produced in the country, he held positions as music controller of Radio, Head of News and Entertainment Department of Sri Lanka Radio, Sinhala Consultant of Beijing Radio in China and Head of Audio Visual Department of Sarvodaya Institute. The total number of works written by Rathnayake was nearly 30: among them 10 novels, 9 collections of short stories, 3 books of poetry, 2 books of songs, an academic book, an epilogue and 2 translations. Personal life Rathnayake was born on 5 February 1929 in Madawala village, Alawwa, Dambadeniya, Udu Kaha South Korale, Kurunegala. Akkara Paha
''Akkara Paha'' (Sinhala, ''Five Acres of Land'') is a 1970 Sri Lankan drama film directed by Lester James Peries, with the screen play dialogue and script by Tissa Abeysekara. The film stars Milton Jayawardena as Sena, Anoma Wattaladeniya as Sadha and Malini Fonseka as Kumari. Tissa Abeysekera adapted Madawela S. Rathnayake's book as a follow-up to ''Golu Hadawatha''. The film received a lukewarm response in Sri Lanka, but was well received when shown in New York at the Museum of Modern Art's festival. Plot Sena (Milton Jayawardena) is sent to a boarding school at a well-to-do city university by his family who mortgage everything they own to pay for his education. The Sri Lanka Rūpavāhinī Corporation (; ), also known as Jathika Rupavahini (lit. National Television) or simply as Rupavahini, is the national television network of Sri Lanka. The term Rupavahini literally means "purveyor of images" in the Sinhala language. Established by Parliament under Act No. 6 of 1982 for the provision of national television service, it produces and broadcasts programmes in three languages. 2nd Sarasaviya Awards
The 2nd Sarasaviya Awards festival (Sinhala: 2වැනි සරසවිය සම්මාන උලෙළ), presented by the Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Limited, was held to honor the best films of 1964 in Sinhala cinema on July 1, 1965, at the Asoka Cinema, Colombo, Sri Lanka. Governor William Gopallawa was the chief guest at the awards night. It is noteworthy that this year's awards will be replaced by special merit awards and no awards will be given in the categories of screenwriting, editing, music direction and art direction. ''Getawarayo'' is a 1964 Sri Lankan drama film co-directed by Mike Wilson and Tissa Liyanasuriya and produced by Shesha Palihakkara. The film starring Gamini Fonseka in lead role along with Sobani Amarasinghe, Joe Abeywickrema, Jeevarani Kurukulasuriya and Tony Ranasinghe made supportive roles. Lester James Peries
Sri Lankabhimanya Lester James Peries (Sinhala language, Sinhala: ශ්‍රී ලංකාභිමාන්‍ය ලෙස්ටර් ජේම්ස් පීරිස්; 5 April 1919 – 29 April 2018) was a Sri Lankan film director, screenwriter, and film producer. Considered as the father of Sri Lankan cinema, Lester worked as a filmmaker from 1949 to 2006, and was involved in over 28 films, including Short subject, shorts and documentaries.
