Madan Puraskar
The Madan Puraskar () is a literary honor in Nepal which Madan Puraskar Guthi confers annually for an outstanding book in the Nepali language published within the calendar year. It is considered as the most prestigious literature award in Nepal. It is awarded on the day of Dashain#Day 1: Ghatasthapana, Ghatasthapana every year alongside Jagadamba Shree Puraskar. History The award was established by daughter in law of Prime Minister Chandra Shumsher JBR, Queen Jagadamba Kumari Devi, in memory of her husband late General Madan Shumsher JBR, on 26 September 1955. Since then it has been presented every year, except in 1974 and 1976. At the time of its establishment, the award prize was Nepalese rupee, रु 4,000. On the Golden–Jubilee year 2005, the award prize was increased to Nepalese rupee, रु 400,000. Vikram Samvat (ISO: ''Vikrama Saṁvata''; abbreviated VS), also known as the Vikrami calendar is a Hindu calendar historically used in the Indian subcontinent and still also used in several Indian states and Nepal. It is a lunisolar calendar, using twelve to thirteen lunar months each solar sidereal years. The year count of the Vikram Samvat calendar is usually 57 years ahead of the Gregorian calendar, except during January to April, when it is ahead by 56 years. Bhagi Raj Ingnam (Limbu) () is a Nepalese historian and retired government official. He is a researcher on Limbuwan history and traditions. Biography He was born and brought up in Aathrai village, Terathum in a ''Subba'' (village chief) family. He studied Public Administration and passed the ''Loksewa'' examination to work as a civil servant for Nepal government. He served the government for 36 years and retired as the chief district officer of Dhankuta in 2014. The novel is based on the Gorkhaland movement revolution that took place during 1980s in the northern part of West Bengal. ''Ranahar'' () is a 2018 Nepali historical fiction novel by Yogesh Raj. It was published on 2 June 2018 by Nepa~laya publications The book won the Madan Puraskar of that year. Sharada Sharma (born 1958; ) is a Nepali writer and poet. Her debut novel, ''Taap'', won the 2012 Padmashree Sahitya Samman award. Early life and education Sharada Sharma was born in 1958 in Syangja, Nepal. Her father was a writer and editor who contributed to various Nepalese publications. It was nominated for Madan Puraskar for the year 2076 BS, one of the most prestigious literary award in Nepal.
