Macklin is a town in the Rural Municipality of Eye Hill No. 382, Saskatchewan, Canada. The population was 1,247 at the 2021 Canadian census. The town is located on Highway 14 and Highway 31 about east of the provincial border with Alberta, and is situated near one of the most productive oil and natural gas producing fields in the province. Among its many attractions, it is the host of the annual Bunnock World Championship, during which the town population doubles in size. Highway 31 is a provincial highway in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. It runs from Highway 14 in Macklin to Highway 4 about north of Rosetown. Highway 31 is about long. The portion of Highway 31 for the between Highway 656 and Highway 4 is called Pasture Road. Route description Highway 31 begins at Highway 14 and drops south into Macklin. From Macklin, it provides access to Macklin Lake Regional Park, crosses Eyehill Creek, and then heads south-east towards the communities of Primate, Denzil, and Salvador. This section of highway follows the Sheppard Sloughs. Continuing south-east from the sloughs, Highway 31 provides access to Luseland and then heads to the junction with Highways 21 and 51 north of Kerrobert. Provost () is a town in central Alberta, Canada. It is located at the junction of Highway 13 and Highway 899, west of the Alberta-Saskatchewan border. History The town was originally named "Lakeview" but renamed by the Canadian Pacific Railway Land Department in 1907; the first train to the town was in 1910. Post office established in 1908, and in the same year the original Methodist Church was built, followed by the Anglican Church. National parks Provincial parks The federal government transferred control of natural resources to the western provinces in 1930 with the Natural Resources Acts. At that time, the Saskatchewan government set up its own Department of Natural Resources. In an attempt to get people working and to encourage tourism during the Great Depression, several projects were set up by the government, including setting up a provincial park system in 1931. The founding parks include Cypress Hills, Duck Mountain, Good Spirit Lake, Moose Mountain, Katepwa Point, and Little Manitou. Greenwater Lake was added in 1932.
