Machiste
Machiste is a supporting character in ''Warlord (DC Comics), Warlord'', a sword and sorcery comic book published by DC Comics. He first appeared in ''Warlord'' #2 (March 1976), and was created by Mike Grell. Fictional character biography Machiste is the wandering king of Kiro in the realm of Skartaris. He meets Travis Morgan while they are serving as galley slaves aboard the ship ''Gyrfalcon''. They quickly become friends and lead the ''Gyrfalcon'''s gladiators in a rebellion against Deimos (character), Deimos, the king of Thera. After Deimos' defeat, Machiste returns to Kiro and is possessed by a demon imprisoned in an ancient axe. He is freed after Morgan cuts off his right hand, which wields the axe, and replaces his hand with a spike-studded mace. During this time, he meets Mariah Romanova, a Moscow State University, Moscow University archaeology student and Olympic fencer who accompanied Morgan to Skartaris, and shaves his head because his crown does not fit comfortably ove ...

Warlord (DC Comics)
The Warlord is a sword and sorcery character appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics. Created by writer-artist Mike Grell, he debuted in '' 1st Issue Special'' #8 (November 1975). The titular character, Travis Morgan, obtains the name "Warlord" as he fights for the freedom of the people of Skartaris. Development Grell described the Warlord's genesis "as a comic strip called ''Savage Empire''... ''Savage Empire'' was born of my admiration for Hal Foster's '' Prince Valiant'' and Burne Hogarth's ''Tarzan'', combined with my fascination with archaeology and lost civilizations". Grell described pitching his idea to DC Comics: "I completely revised the concept from ''Savage Empire'' into ''The Warlord''. The story of an archeologist who stumbles through a time portal and winds up in Atlantis became the story of US spy pilot whose SR-71 is damaged while on a mission over Russia and plunges through an opening at the North pole into the world at the center on the earth, ...
