Machan (2008 Film)
''Machan'' is a 2008 Italian-Sri Lankan comedy film written, directed, and produced by Uberto Pasolini as his directorial debut about the made-up Sri Lankan National Handball Team that vanished in 2004. Background Based upon a true story, the film was shot on locations in Sri Lanka and Germany. The inspiration came from the actual case of the 2004 incident, where a fake Sri Lankan national handball team tricked its way into a German tournament, lost all of their matches, and subsequently vanished. Production spent several weeks speaking with people in the less fortunate areas of Colombo and used the people met through that research to create the backgrounds of the main characters. When director Uberto Pasolini heard of the incident, he stated "I fell in love with the story so much that I decided to shoot it myself". Uberto Pasolini
Uberto Pasolini Dall'Onda (born 1 May 1957 in Rome, Italy) is an Italian film producer, director, and former investment banker known for producing the 1997 film ''The Full Monty'' and directing and producing the 2008 film '' Machan'' and the 2013 film ''Still Life''. Career Pasolini, an Italian count and a nephew of Luchino Visconti, studied at Atlantic College and the London School of Economics, and then worked as an investment banker in England for 12 years. He wished to work on the film '' The Killing Fields'', was interviewed by David Puttnam, and was rejected. When Puttnam went to Bangkok to shoot the film, Pasolini bought his own ticket and presented himself on set seeking work. Puttnam was impressed by this persistence and brought him on board the project. Leonie Ayuntha Weerasinghe ( si, ලියෝනි කොතලාවල; 18 September 1944 – 19 June 2022), popularly as Leonie Kotelawala, was an actress in Sri Lankan cinema, theatre and television. In a career spanned more than seven decades, Kotelawala is best known for becoming the first Sri Lankan stage actress to win the 1962 Best Actress Award for her performance in the play ''Mehew Lokaya''. Seetha Kumari Ehelepola (born 9 May 1940 – died 7 August 2013 as සීතා කුමාරි ඇහැලේපොළ) inhala, was an actress in Sri Lankan cinema, theater and television. One of the earliest pillars in Sri Lankan film history, Ehelepola had a career that spanned more than four decades.
