Maccabi Jerusalem Football Club ( Hebrew: מועדון כדורגל מכבי ירושלים) was an Israeli football club based at Jerusalem. The club was disbanded in 1963, reformed in 1970, and was withdrawn again in 2005. History The club was founded in 1911, the second football club to be formed in Israel. At first, all of the team's matches were friendly matches against local teams, foreign-based visiting teams or visiting army units' teams. After the establishment of the British Mandate of Palestine, the club joined local cup and league competitions, such as the Jerusalem Cup and the Municipal Jerusalem Cup. Maccabi World Union is an international Jewish sports organisation spanning five continents (Africa, North America, South America, Australia, Europe) and more than 50 countries, with some 400,000 members. The Maccabi World Union organises the Maccabiah Games, a prominent international Jewish athletics event. 1999–2000 Liga Bet
The 1999–2000 Liga Bet season saw Tzeirei Nahf, Maccabi Ironi Tirat HaCarmel, Hapoel Herzliya and Hapoel Marmorek win their regional divisions and promoted to Liga Alef. Second placed clubs, Hapoel Kafr Sumei, Hapoel Jaljulia and Maccabi Jerusalem/Ma'ale Adumim were also promoted, after several vacancies were created in Liga Alef. At the bottom, Maccabi Givat HaRakafot (from North A division), Ironi Zikhron Ya'akov, Hapoel Barta'a, Maccabi Beit She'an (from North B division) and Hapoel Ar'ara (from South A division) were all automatically relegated to Liga Gimel. The 1975–76 Liga Bet season was the last in which Liga Bet was the third tier of Israeli football, as at the end of the season, Liga Artzit came into existence, and became the new second tier, Liga Alef became the third tier, and Liga Bet became the fourth tier. Football ( he, כַּדוּרֶגֶל, ''Kaduregel'') is the most popular sport in Israel. Football as an organised sport, first developed in the United Kingdom, who controlled Mandatory Palestine during the days of the British Mandate. The Israel Football Association joined the Asian Football Confederation in 1954, but was expelled in 1974 due to political pressure from Arab and Muslim members in the context of the Arab–Israeli conflict. In the late 1970s and 1980s, the Israel Football Association was not affiliated with any confederation. During this period, the Israeli national teams were only playing in FIFA competitions occasionally in OFC, UEFA and CONMEBOL qualifying tournaments. Liga Dalet ( he, ליגה ד', lit. ''D League'') was the fifth (in 1958–59 and between 1969 and 1976) and sixth (between 1976 and 1985) tier, at the bottom of the Israeli football league system. 1954–55 Israel State Cup
The 1954–55 Israel State Cup ( he, גביע המדינה, ''Gvia HaMedina'') was the 18th season of Israel's nationwide football cup competition and the third after the Israeli Declaration of Independence. Matches began on 22 January 1955, but was not concluded until the end of the 1954–55 season, and the later rounds were held in autumn 1955, at the beginning of the 1955–56 season. The final was held at the Basa Stadium in Tel Aviv on 19 November 1955. Maccabi Tel Aviv appeared in its fifth consecutive final and after defeating Hapoel Petah Tikva 3–1, won its 8th cup. Liga Gimel
Liga Gimel ( he, ליגה ג', lit. ''League C'') is the fifth and bottom division of Israeli Football League, a position it has held since 2009. From Liga Alef and downwards to this, each league is separated by region as well. History Liga Gimel was first established in 1951 as a third division, below Liga Alef and Liga Bet. In 1955, after designating the first tier as Liga Leumit, Liga Gimel was demoted to the fourth tier. Further demotions followed in 1976, after the second tier Liga Artzit to the fifth tier and in 1999, after the establishment of Liga Ha'Al to the sixth tier. At the end of the 2008–09 season, Liga Artzit was scrapped and Liga Gimel was brought up back to the fifth tier.
