''Macbeth'' is a 1948 American historical drama directed by Orson Welles. A Film adaptations of William Shakespeare works, film adaptation of William Shakespeare's tragedy of the Macbeth, same name, it tells the story of the Scottish Highlands, Scottish general who becomes the King of Scotland through treachery and murder. The film stars Welles in the lead role and Jeanette Nolan (in her feature film debut) as Lady Macbeth. George Orson Welles (May 6, 1915 – October 10, 1985) was an American director, actor, writer, producer, and magician who is remembered for his innovative work in film, radio, and theatre. He is among the greatest and most influential filmmakers of all time. King Duncan is a fictional character in Shakespeare's ''Macbeth.'' He is the father of two youthful sons ( Malcolm and Donalbain), and the victim of a well-plotted regicide in a power grab by his trusted captain Macbeth. Erskine Sanford
Erskine Sanford (November 19, 1885 – July 7, 1969) was an American actor on the stage, radio and motion pictures. Long associated with the Theatre Guild, he later joined Orson Welles's Mercury Theatre company and appeared in several of Welles's films, including ''Citizen Kane'' (1941), in which he played Herbert Carter, the bumbling, perspiring newspaper editor. Banquo
Lord Banquo , the Thane (Scotland), Thane of Lochaber, is a semi-historical character in William Shakespeare's 1606 play ''Macbeth''. In the play, he is at first an ally of Macbeth (character), Macbeth (both are generals in the King's army) and they meet the Three Witches together. After prophesying that Macbeth will become king, the witches tell Banquo that he will not be king himself, but that his descendants will be. Malcolm (Macbeth)
Malcolm is a character in William Shakespeare's ''Macbeth'' (c. 1603–1607). The character is based on the historical king Malcolm III of Scotland, and is derived largely from the account in ''Holinshed's Chronicles'' (1587), a history of Britain. Lord Macduff, the Thane of Fife, is a character and the heroic main antagonist in William Shakespeare's ''Macbeth'' (c.1603–1607) that is loosely based on history.
