Macaé
Macaé () is a municipality located in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro, 180 km northeast of the state capital. It is the birthplace of the 13th president of Brazil, Washington Luís. Geography Location Macaé is generally considered to be the centre of the offshore petroleum industry in Brazil and it is often referred to as "Cidade do Petróleo" ("City of Petroleum"). The Brazilian state-controlled oil company Petrobras has many facilities within the town. Macaé is one of the fastest-growing cities in Brazil, with a growth of 600% within the last 10 years. Benedito Lacerda Airport is served by scheduled flights and concentrates operations to off-shore platforms. Its population was estimated as 261,501 in 2020 and its municipality covers an area of 1,216 km². Other economic activities in the city include tourism and fishing. Macaé Airport
Joaquim de Azevedo Mancebo Airport is the airport serving Macaé, Brazil. The airport is named after the founder of the local air club. It is operated by Zurich Airport Brasil. History The airport was established in the 1960s as an airfield for general aviation and a flying club. In the 1980s the runway was paved and an apron and a terminal with 941 m² were constructed, enabling Macaé Airport to fully support the operations related to the Campos basin. In fact, most of its movement (98%) is related to helicopter flights to/from offshore oil platforms of the Campos basin. Its apron has 6 positions for fixed-wing aircraft and 38 positions for rotorcrafts. Previously operated by Infraero, on March 15, 2019 Flughafen Zürich AG won a 30-year concession to operate the airport. The golden lion tamarin (''Leontopithecus rosalia''; ), less commonly known as the golden lion marmoset, is a small New World monkey of the family Callitrichidae. The Central Rio de Janeiro Atlantic Forest Mosaic () is a Protected area mosaic (Brazil), protected area mosaic in the state of Rio de Janeiro (state), Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The mosaic is inland, to the east of the city of Rio de Janeiro. History A project to create three new protected area mosaics in the Serra do Mar Ecological Corridor began in December 2005, coordinated by the National Council of the Atlantic Forest Biosphere Reserve. These were the Bocaina Mosaic, Central Rio de Janeiro Atlantic Forest Mosaic and Mantiqueira Mosaic. Funding was provided by Conservation International, the Fund for the Global Environment Facility, the Government of Japan, the MacArthur Foundation and the World Bank.
