Jock McNiven
John Graham McNiven (April 2, 1900 – September 27, 1969) was a mine engineer, mine operator and politician from the Northwest Territories, Canada. McNiven was a 1923 graduate of the University of Toronto (M.Sc. in Mining Engineering) and worked for several years in mining camps in Ontario. He first came to Yellowknife, Northwest Territories in 1938 to work as mill superintendent of Negus Mines Ltd. His family joined him in 1940. Upon the resignation of mine manager Bill Stuart, McNiven was promoted to this position in May 1939 where he remained until the mine closed in 1952. In 1946 he established a chapter of the Grand Lodge of Alberta (Freemason), the first lodge in the Northwest Territories. McNiven became the first member of the Legislative Assembly of Northwest Territories from the Arctic; in 1947 he was appointed to the council, for Yellowknife. David McNiven Garner (26 November 1928 – 13 May 2016) was a New Zealand research physicist, with a focus in physical oceanography and ocean circulation. Biography After leaving secondary school in 1946 Garner could not get into University because of a preference for World War II returned servicemen, so he got a job for a year (1946–47) on the Meteorological Sounding Team Canterbury Project on radar meteorology with the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, based at the Ashburton Aerodrome. The New Zealand National Film Unit made a short film of the activities for its Weekly Review which showed in cinemas as a short subject. Scott Andrew McNiven (born 27 May 1978) is an English-born Scottish footballer. He started his career at Oldham Athletic in 1995 before moving on to Oxford United in 2002. He jointly managed Hyde with Steve Halford at the end of the 2010–11 season, before returning a year later to take up the full manager's post. Kate McNiven, also called Kate Nike Neiving or Catharine Niven, was a nurse and accused witch who served the House of Inchbrakie in the Parish of Monzie, near Crieff in Scotland.
