Allan MacMaster
Allan Gerard MacMaster (born September 26, 1974) is a Canadian politician. He represents the electoral district of Inverness in the Nova Scotia House of Assembly as a member of the Progressive Conservative Party. Early life and career He is the son of Marie and Hugh Alan "Buddy" MacMaster, and grew up in Judique in Inverness County. He graduated from St. Francis Xavier University with a degree in business administration. Prior to being elected, MacMaster worked as an investment advisor with BMO Nesbitt Burns, and authored a monthly column for the ''Nova Scotia Business Journal'' entitled "Building Your Wealth". He also worked as an assistant to the former MLA'S for Inverness. MacMaster was first elected to the Nova Scotia House of Assembly in a by-election on October 20, 2009. Buddy MacMaster
Hugh Alan "Buddy" MacMaster (October 18, 1924 – August 20, 2014) was a Canadian fiddler. He performed and recorded both locally and internationally, and was regarded as an expert on the tradition and lore of Cape Breton fiddle music. Early life MacMaster was born in 1924 into a Gaelic-speaking home in Timmins, Ontario to John Duncan MacMaster and Sarah Agnes MacDonald MacMaster. The family was originally from Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia, and in 1928 they returned to Cape Breton to settle in the town of Judique. MacMaster's father played the fiddle, but his mother sang to him from birth, lilting with a Gaelic inflection peculiar to the area. At an early age, MacMaster began to play the fiddle. At age 12, he had his first public performance at an amateur hour in Port Hood, Nova Scotia, and at age 14 he played his first professional gig at a square dance in the nearby town of Troy. Daniel Stewart MacMaster (July 11, 1968 – March 16, 2008) was a Canadian singer, who was lead vocalist for the Canadian/British hard rock band Bonham. Career With Bonham, he released two albums: 1989's '' The Disregard of Timekeeping'' (which peaked at Number 38 on the Billboard charts) and 1992's ''Mad Hatter. ''In 2001, Daniel was looking to put a new project together, starting with guitarist Stefano Fantin, and a string of small club dates were performed in the Barrie area, though, due to musical differences, they parted ways. Sir Donald Macmaster, 1st Baronet
Sir Donald Macmaster, 1st Baronet, (3 September 1846 – 3 March 1922) was a Canadian lawyer and a politician in both Canada and the United Kingdom. Macmaster was born into a family of Scottish descent in Williamstown, Glengarry County, Canada West (now in eastern Ontario). During the Fenian Raids in 1866 he served as a lieutenant in the Williamstown Volunteer Infantry. He studied law at McGill University, was called to the Quebec bar in 1871, and set up practice in Montreal. Macmaster served as Crown Prosecutor for many cases. He was called to the Ontario bar and appointed Queen's Counsel in 1882. He represented Glengarry in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario from 1879 to 1882 and in the House of Commons of Canada as a Conservative member from 1883 to 1887, when he lost his seat. Ken MacMaster
Kenneth MacMaster (born May 12, 1934) is a politician in Manitoba, Canada. He was a Progressive Conservative member of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba from 1977 to 1981, and served as a cabinet minister in the government of Sterling Lyon. He was the son of John MacMaster and Jessie Campbell. In 1962, MacMaster married Lucille Rita Desjardins. MacMaster first ran for public office in the federal election of 1965, as a New Democrat in the northern Manitoba riding of Churchill. He received 3306 votes, finishing third behind Tory Robert Simpson and Liberal Francis Bud Jobin. At the time of the election, he described his occupation as "mine mechanic". Mary Macmaster
Mary Macmaster (born 22 November 1955, Glasgow, Scotland) is a Scottish harpist and singer. She performs on the clàrsach and the Camac electroharp, and she sings in English and Gaelic. She has worked with Sting, Kathryn Tickell, Norma Waterson, Donald Hay, the Poozies, and in the duo Sìleas with Patsy Seddon. In 2013, she and Seddon were inducted into the Scottish Traditional Music Hall of Fame. As an adolescent, Macmaster bought an inexpensive harp that turned out to be wire-strung like the traditional Gaelic clàrsach. Lacking instruction in this older kind of harp, she mostly taught herself how to play it. In 1977, she studied at a Clàrsach Society summer school, and three years later she pursued Celtic studies at the University of Edinburgh. She recorded one album as a member of the band Sprangeen. Natalie MacMaster (born June 13, 1972) is a Canadian fiddler from Troy, Inverness County, Nova Scotia, who plays Cape Breton fiddle music. She has toured with the Chieftains, Faith Hill, Carlos Santana and Alison Krauss, and has recorded with Yo-Yo Ma. She has appeared at the Celtic Colours festival in Cape Breton, Celtic Connections in Scotland and MerleFest in the United States. Background MacMaster is the daughter of Alex and Minnie (''née'' Beaton) MacMaster and the sister of Kevin and David MacMaster.
