Lieutenant-General Sir Frederick William Nicholas McCracken, (18 August 1859 – 8 August 1949) was a British Army officer who saw regimental service in Africa during the late nineteenth century, and later held senior command during the First World War. He commanded an infantry brigade in the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) of 1914, was appointed to command 15th (Scottish) Division in the New Armies from 1915 to 1917, and then briefly commanded XIII Corps on the Western Front before being posted to a home command in the United Kingdom. Henry Mitchell MacCracken (September 28, 1840 – December 24, 1918) was an American educator and academic administrator. Biography Henry MacCracken was born in Oxford, Ohio on September 28, 1840. He graduated from Miami University in Ohio in 1857. After a brief teaching career, he entered the Presbyterian ministry in 1863. From 1881 to 1884 he served as the sixth chancellor of the University of Pittsburgh, then called the Western University of Pennsylvania. In 1884 he was appointed professor of philosophy and vice chancellor of New York University, becoming chancellor in 1891. Before his retirement in 1910, the University Heights campus was acquired, a graduate school and schools of commerce and pedagogy were founded, and the university medical school was strengthened by union with Bellevue Hospital medical college. Henry Noble MacCracken (November 19, 1880 – May 7, 1970) was an American academic administrator who was the fifth president of Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York, serving from 1915 to 1946 as the first secular president of the college. MacCracken's term as president of Vassar College is the longest in the college's history. Early life MacCracken was born in Toledo, Ohio in November 19, 1880, to Henry Mitchell MacCracken. Henry's brother was John Henry MacCracken, president (1915–26) of Lafayette College. In 1900, MacCracken earned an English degree from New York University (NYU). Alan "Trip" MacCracken (born June 30, 1974) is currently the Director of Roster Management for the Jacksonville Jaguars. MacCracken graduated from Hawken School, where he captained the football and baseball teams, and became an undergraduate at Hamilton College. During his junior year, he went off campus to do an internship at the White House. While in Washington, MacCracken also found work as an intern with the Washington Redskins. After Hamilton, MacCracken continued his work with the Redskins while receiving his J.D. at Duke Law School. MacCracken Hall is a women’s residence hall on Miami University’s campus in Oxford, Ohio. Built in 1957 and completed in the spring of 1961, MacCracken Hall was named after Miami Graduate Henry Mitchell MacCracken. It is located on Miami University’s Central Quad, and currently houses four sorority chapters: Alpha Chi Omega, Chi Omega, Kappa Alpha Theta, and Kappa Delta. Construction and Planning MacCracken Hall was built by Knowlton Construction, with architect Cellarius & Hilmer in the mid-1900s. The West Wing was opened in September 1957; while the Central Wing and East Wing were under construction, the women’s dormitory was called Center Hall. After the hall was fully completed in the spring of 1961, it was renamed MacCracken Hall, after Henry Mitchell MacCracken.
