Maas Thajoon Akbar
Maas Thajoon Akbar, KC (15 June 1880 – 22 April 1944) was a Ceylonese (Sri Lankan), judge and lawyer. He was a judge of the Supreme Court of Ceylon and Solicitor General of Ceylon. Born to M. S. J. Akbar, a wealthy coconut planter, Akbar was educated at the Royal College, Colombo. After gaining a first class division pass at the London Matriculation, he won the coveted scholarship to University of Cambridge: he entered Emmanuel College, Cambridge in 1897 where he did the Mechanical Science Tripos to qualify as an engineer. However, he subsequently switched over to law and was called to the bar at Gray's Inn as a barrister. He returned to Ceylon in 1905, and while practicing law as an advocate, he also worked as a lecturer and examiner at the Ceylon Law College. Thomas "Maas" Swartwout (c. 1660 – ) was one of the earliest settlers of the Neversink and Delaware River Valley, early landowner in colonial America, one of seven holders of the Wagheckemeck ( Minisink Region) Peenpack land patent then in Ulster County October 14, 1697 and one of seven founders with Pierre Guimard, Jacques Caudebec, Anthony & Bernardus Swartwout, David Jamison and Jan Tyse of pre1798 Deerpark, Orange County, New York. Maghas or Maas, more properly, Mags or Maks, was the capital city of Alania, a medieval kingdom in the Greater Caucasus. It is known from Islamic and Chinese sources, but its location is uncertain, with some authors favouring North Ossetia and others pointing to Arkhyz in modern-day Karachay–Cherkessia, where three 10th-century churches still stand. Historian John Latham Sprinkle from the University of Ghent (Belgium) identified Maghas with an archeological site known as Il’ichevskoye Gorodische in Otradnensky District, Krasnodar Krai. Amasi (in Ndebele, Zulu and Xhosa), emasi (in Swazi), karringmelk (in Afrikaans), or mafi (in Sesotho), is a thick curdled sour fermented milk product that is sometimes compared to cottage cheese or plain yogurt but has a much stronger flavor. A staple food in pre-colonial times, it is now a popular snack in South Africa and Lesotho.
