MV Islander (2005)
MV ''Islander'' is a roll-on/roll-off ferry operated by Brittany Ferries on routes connecting Guernsey in the Channel Islands to Portsmouth, England and Saint-Malo, France. Built in 2005 as the ''MS Dueodde'' for Bornholmstrafikken, she has since seen service with StraitNZ as ''MV Straitsman'' in New Zealand between 2010 and 2023, before being sold to Condor Ferries as ''Condor Islander.'' The vessel was renamed ''Islander'' in 2025, following the company's majority takeover by Brittany Ferries. History ''Islander'' was built in the style of Van der Giessen de Noord's vessels, alongside her sister ship ''Hammerodde'', now named . Bornholmstrafikken ''Islander'' entered service with Bornholmstrafikken in 2005 as MS ''Dueodde''. Alongside ''Hammerodde'', she operated routes linking Bornholm with the rest of Denmark. Van Der Giessen De Noord
Van der Giessen de Noord () was a shipyard, shipbuilding company that mainly built ferry, ferries, located in Krimpen aan den IJssel, a town in the western Netherlands. The yard was especially suited to the construction of large Ship, vessels due to its developed undercover facilities. The shipyard was founded in 1820. After World War II, the company expanded significantly in the building of larger ships. Owned by IHC Caland (now ''SBM Offshore''), the yard went into liquidation in October 2003 primarily due to aggressive competition from other parts of the world such as South Korea. Saint Helier Harbour is the main harbour on the Channel Island of Jersey. It is on the south coast of the island, occupying most of the coast of the main town of St Helier. It is operated by Ports of Jersey, a company wholly owned by the Government of Jersey. Facilities include three marinas for berth (moorings), berthing private yachts on floating dock (jetty), pontoons, drying harbours and facilities for commercial shipping including roll-on/roll-off ferry berths, a Tanker (ship), tanker berth and a dock for lift-on/lift-off cargo ships. Etymology Saint Helier Harbour is named after Helier (or Helerius), a 6th-century ascetic hermit from Belgium. The traditional date of his martyrdom is Anno Domini, AD 555.
