MUGEM-class Aircraft Carrier
The MUGEM-class aircraft carrier is an initiative by the Turkish Navy to build a fully indigenous aircraft carrier. MUGEM is a Turkish acronym for , meaning "National Aircraft Carrier". The construction of the first MUGEM-class aircraft carrier started on 2 January 2025. Development Plans for constructing a large Turkish aircraft carrier were first announced in April 2023 by the president of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who held talks with companies from Spain and the United Kingdom on the issue. Contrary to earlier assumptions and news reports by the media, it was later revealed that the future aircraft carrier would not be a larger version of , but a completely new design. On 15 February 2024, the Design and Projects Office of the Turkish Navy announced that it will be a STOBAR aircraft carrier with an overall length of , beam of , draught of , and displacement of . Istanbul Naval Shipyard
Istanbul Naval Shipyard (), also known as Pendik Naval Shipyard, is a naval shipyard of the Turkish Navy on the northeastern coast of the Sea of Marmara in Tuzla, Istanbul, Turkey. It is the largest shipbuilding facility in Turkey. Right after the 1999 İzmit earthquake, which also caused heavy damage to the facilities of the Turkish Navy located in Gölcük, Kocaeli, the Navy Command decided to relocate the shipbuilding activities at the Gölcük Naval Shipyard to the Istanbul Naval Shipyard, leaving only the ship maintenance and reparation works there. The shipyard has one of the largest shipbuilding dry-docks in the country, with the dimensions of (length x width x depth). The dry-dock is serviced by one Kone portal crane with the lifting capacity of 450 tons. COGAG
Combined gas turbine and gas turbine (COGAG) is a type of propulsion system for ships using two gas turbines connected to a single propeller shaft. A gearbox and clutches allow either of the turbines to drive the shaft or both of them combined. Marine usage of COGAG systems are similar to those found ashore. Description A COGAG system consists of two gas turbines, each connected to a reduction gearbox. These are each attached to a coupling with both connected to larger gearbox and then to the ship's propeller. Advantages and disadvantages Advantages of the system include a large degree of automation along with quick startup time, they are easier to silence and protect from shock. Compared to combined diesel and gas (CODAG) or combined diesel or gas (CODOG), COGAG systems have a smaller footprint but a much lower fuel efficiency at cruise speed and for CODAG systems it is also somewhat lower for high speed dashes. TAI TF Kaan
The TAI Kaan also called TF ("Turkish Fighter", formerly known as TF-X) and MMU (, Turkish for 'National Combat Aircraft'), is a stealth, twin-engine, all-weather air superiority fighter in development by Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI). The jet is to replace the Turkish Air Force's F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft and to be sold to foreign governments. The prototype performed taxi and ground tests on March 16, 2023 and was ceremonially rolled out two days later. Its maiden flight, initially scheduled for 27 December 2023 (one day before the maiden flight of the TAI Anka-3), was completed on 21 February 2024.
