MTV Russia
MTV Russia or MTV Россия () was a Russian music and entertainment TV channel, which carried out its broadcasting from 25 September 1998 to 31 May 2013. On 1 October 2013, MTV Russia was relaunched as a satellite pay TV channel. In March 2022, Paramount Global announced that it intends to pause operations in Russia. The company did not comment on their plans of returning in the future. History Pre-launch (1988–1998) In October 1988, the management of MTV Networks Europe (now Paramount Networks EMEAA) visited the USSR for preliminary negotiations on the launch of MTV Europe, at the same time an application for registration of the TV channel was submitted. In 1989, MTV Europe covered the Moscow Music Festival live from Lenin Stadium. Soviet artists officially debuted on MTV in the summer of 1989. Sean John Combs (born November 4, 1969), better known by his stage name Diddy, and formerly Puff Daddy and P. Diddy, is an American rapper, record producer, and record executive. Born in Harlem and raised in Mount Vernon, New York, Mount Vernon, Combs worked as a talent director at Uptown Records before founding his own record label, Bad Boy Records in 1993. Mumiy Troll ( ) is a Russian rock group, founded in 1983 in Vladivostok by vocalist and songwriter Ilya Lagutenko (). The name is a pun on '' Mumintroll'', the children's books by Tove Jansson, translated into Russian as "Mummi Troll". Career Ilya Lagutenko founded Mumiy Troll in Vladivostok on 16 October 1983. In 1985, the group recorded their first album, ''Novaya luna aprelya'', which was distributed as '' magnitizdat''. Mumiy Troll disbanded when Lagutenko was conscripted into the Russian navy. In 1990, they briefly reunited and released their second album, ''Delay Yu-Yu'', on tape. Having studied Chinese and English at the Oriental Studies Institute of the Far Eastern Federal University, Lagutenko worked in China and London from 1991 to 1995. The Prodigy
The Prodigy are an English electronic music band formed in Braintree, Essex, in 1990 by producer, keyboardist, and songwriter Liam Howlett. The original line-up also featured Rapping, MC and vocalist Maxim (musician), Maxim, dancer and occasionally live keyboardist Leeroy Thornhill, dancer Sharky, and dancer and vocalist Keith Flint. Thomas E. Freston (born November 22, 1945) is an American media proprietor, businessman, and financier. Early life and education Freston grew up in Rowayton, Connecticut. He received a Bachelor of Arts from Saint Michael's College and an MBA from New York University. Freston began his career advertising at Benton & Bowles, which later merged with D'Arcy. In 1972, after a year of traveling, he moved to South Asia to start a textile and clothing business, Hindu Kush, and worked and lived in New Delhi, India, and Kabul, Afghanistan. Muz-TV (, from Музыкальное телевидение - Music Television) is a Russian music TV channel, broadcasting since 1996. It is largely modelled after western MTV and predates launching of MTV Russia in 1998. Muz-TV was founded by Sergey Lisovsky and Boris Zosimov. The general director of Muz-TV is Arman Davletarov. In 2011, Muz-TV is owned by UTH Russia, which is, in turn, 49% owned by MTV. In 2024, Ivan Tavrin's Kismet Group agreed to sell media assets, including the Muz-TV and Yu TV channels, as well as the radio station Choose Radio, to a group of investors including Media Telecom (JV Rostelecom and NMG). Muz-TV's format is Russian pop music videos, although international pop, hip-hop and contemporary R&B can be occasionally seen as well. TV-6 () was one of Russia's first commercial television stations that began broadcasting on 1 January 1993 and was closed on 22 January 2002. History 1991-1993 Moscow Independent Broadcasting Corporation (MIBC), a Russian joint-stock company, was established in August 1991.
