MTU Kerry GAA
Munster Technological University Kerry GAA or MTU Kerry GAA is the GAA team located in the Munster Technological University, Tralee, County Kerry, Ireland. They play Gaelic football, hurling, ladies' Gaelic football and camogie. Gaelic football The football club competes in the Sigerson Cup and Higher Education Leagues as well as the McGrath Cup. The Ladies football team play in the O'Connor Cup and Higher Education Leagues. History MTU Kerry (formerly known as IT Tralee and Tralee RTC) made a mark on the college GAA scene in 1997 when it became the first RTC to win the Sigerson Cup. It was only Tralee's second outing in this competition. However, the college created further history by winning the Sigerson three times in successive seasons to become the only RTC/Institute of Technology to do so in the competition's history. ''The Kerryman'' is a weekly local newspaper published in County Kerry in Ireland by Independent News & Media who are a subsidiary of Mediahuis. The newspaper was founded in 1904 by Maurice Griffin and cousins Thomas and Daniel Nolan. Independent News & Media, then known as Independent Newspapers Limited acquired ''The Kerryman'' in 1972. All-Ireland Senior Ladies' Football Championship
The All-Ireland Senior Ladies' Football Championship () is the premier inter-county competition in the game of ladies' Gaelic football in Ireland. The series of games are organised by the Ladies' Gaelic Football Association and are played during the summer months, with the All-Ireland Final being played at Croke Park. The qualifiers were introduced in 2008. The winning team is presented with the Brendan Martin Cup (). The cup is named after Brendan Martin, a native of Tullamore, County Offaly, who organised Ladies' Gaelic football games in the early 1970s and became one of the first treasurers of the newly founded Ladies' Gaelic Football Association. The Ashbourne Cup is an Irish camogie tournament played each year to determine the national champion university or third level college. The Ashbourne Cup is the highest division in inter-collegiate camogie. Nicky Quaid
Nicholas Quaid (born 12 June 1989) is an Irish hurler who plays as a goalkeeper for club side Effin and at inter-county level with the Limerick senior hurling team. Early life Quaid was born in Effin, County Limerick, the middle child of three sons born to Tommy Quaid and Breda Grace. His father was an All-Ireland runner-up with Limerick as a goalkeeper in 1980. The Waterford Crystal Cup was an annual hurling competition organised by the Munster Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association from 2006 to 2015 for the top inter-county teams and third-level institutes and universities in the province of Munster in Ireland. Ryan Cup
The Ryan Cup is the tier 2 hurling championship for third level colleges, the Fitzgibbon Cup being the tier 1 hurling championship trophy. The Ryan Cup competition is administered by Comhairle Ard Oideachais Cumann Lúthchleas Gael (CLG), the GAA's Higher Education Council. At some time either in the late 1980s or in the early 1990s, the Ryan Cup - the trophy for the Division 1 Gaelic football league - was presented to the winners of what was then the Division II Championship (non-university). As a result of this mix-up, the Division II Championship became colloquially known as the 'Ryan Cup'. Unfortunately several other GAA trophy competitions bear this name, including still the Higher Education First-Division football league. Mike Frank Russell
Mike Frank Russell (born 1977) is an Irish Gaelic footballer. He plays Gaelic football with his local club Laune Rangers and was a member at senior level of the Kerry county team from 1997 until 2009. Early life Born in Killorglin, County Kerry in 1977, Russell was educated at Scoil Mhuire national school before later attending the Intermediate School in Killorglin. It was here that Russell's football skills were first developed and he became a key member of the school's senior team. In 1996, he captured a Corn Uí Mhuirí winners' medal as the Killorglin school captured the Munster colleges' title. An All-Ireland colleges' final appearance beckoned for Russell's side with St Patrick's of Maghera providing the opposition. Killorglin went on a goal scoring spree and proved more than a match for the point-scoring abilities of St Pat's.
