MRT (Bangkok)
The Metropolitan Rapid Transit or MRT is a mass rapid transit system serving the Bangkok Metropolitan Region in Thailand. The MRT system comprises two fully operational rapid transit lines (Blue and Purple) and two fully operational monorail lines (Yellow and Pink), with another rapid transit line (Orange) under construction. The MRT Blue Line, officially the ''Chaloem Ratchamongkhon Line'', between Hua Lamphong MRT station, Hua Lamphong and Bang Sue MRT station, Bang Sue was the first to open in July 2004 as Bangkok's second metro system. The MRT Blue line is officially known in Thai as ''rotfaifa mahanakhon'' (รถไฟฟ้ามหานคร) or "metropolitan electric train", but it is more commonly called ''rotfai taidin'' (รถไฟใต้ดิน), literally, "underground train" as it was distinguished from the BTS Skytrain by being completely underground when its first section between Hua Lamphong to Bang Sue opened. MRT Blue Line
The MRT Blue Line () or MRT Chaloem Ratchamongkon Line () is Bangkok's third rapid transit line, following the Sukhumvit line and Silom line of the BTS Skytrain. It is the first line of the MRT (Bangkok), MRT system and is operated by Bangkok Expressway and Metro (BEM). The line has a total length of , operating as a semi-circular route, circle or spiral route from Lak Song MRT station, Lak Song to Tha Phra MRT station, Tha Phra which also serves as a self-interchange station. MRT Purple Line
The MRT Purple line () or MRT Chalong Ratchadham line () is Bangkok's fifth rapid transit line, following the Sukhumvit Line, Silom Line, Blue Line, and Airport Rail Link. The line is long, serving the north-western area of Bangkok running from Tao Poon to Khlong Bang Phai in Nonthaburi Province. The Northern section of the line opened on 6 August 2016, with travel between Khlong Bang Phai and Tao Poon. It is the second line of MRT system and is operated by BEM under a concession contract. MRT Brown Line
The MRT Brown Line is a 22.1 km rapid transit line in Bangkok, Thailand proposed monorail mass transit line from Nonthaburi Civic Centre, Nonthaburi Province to Lam Sali intersection, Bang Kapi District. 20 stations are proposed for the line and the expected cost for the project is 48 billion baht. The line has been integrated for 7.2 km with the N2 expressway project and a feasibility study has been completed. The MRT Brown line will interchange with 7 other mass transit lines. The MRT Brown line investment plan was approved by the MRTA Board in June 2019 for final detailed design, which was expected to be completed by December 2020. However, the detailed design will take longer and is not expected to be completed until September 2022. MRT Orange Line
The MRT Orange Line () is a rapid transit line of the Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) in the Bangkok Metropolitan Area, Thailand. When fully completed, the MRT Orange line will be long with 29 stations (7 stations will be elevated for and 22 will be underground for ), including an interchange with the current Thailand Cultural Centre Station of MRT Blue Line). MRT Pink Line
The MRT Pink Line () is an elevated monorail line of the MRT in Bangkok and Nonthaburi Province, Thailand. The monorail line is long and has 30 stations. It runs in the northern part of the Bangkok Metropolitan Area from Nonthaburi Civic Center in Pak Kret district, Nonthaburi along the major east–west transport corridor of Highway 304 (Chaeng Wattana and Ram Inthra roads) to terminate at Min Buri in Min Buri district in east Bangkok. It opened for free public trial operation on 21 November 2023 with then Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin taking the inaugural ride. MRT Yellow Line
The MRT Yellow Line () or MRT Nakkhara Phiphat Line () is an elevated monorail line in Bangkok and Samut Prakan Province, Thailand, part of the MRT (Bangkok), MRT rapid transit system. The line has 23 stations and cost 55 billion baht. The line was originally proposed in 2005 by the Office of Transport and Traffic Policy and Planning to be a heavy rail underground line along Lat Phrao road which was then elevated from Lam Sali Intersection to Samrong. However, it was decided in 2012 to build an elevated monorail line for the whole length in order to reduce construction costs. Rail Transport In Bangkok
The State Railway of Thailand (SRT), founded in 1890, is the oldest operating railway operator in Bangkok. It'd not be until 1897 when SRT operates its first train service. The SRT remains the only railway operator that operates train service between Bangkok Metropolitan Region and other parts of the country. Although proposals for the development of rapid transit in Bangkok had been made since 1975, leading to plans for the failed Lavalin Skytrain, it was only in 1999 that Thailand's first rapid transit lines would begin operation. Those are Sukhumvit Line and Silom Line of the BTS Skytrain. In 2004, Blue Line began operation. Blue line is notable as the country's first rapid transit line with an underground section. Suvarnabhumi Airport Rail Link
The Airport Rail Link (ARL) () is an airport rail link line in Bangkok Metropolitan Region connecting Suvarnabhumi Airport to the city center. The commuter rail line starts at the underground platforms inside Suvarnabhumi station, before ascending onto an elevated viaduct to Lat Krabang station, and continuing west parallel to the eastern line railway. It intersects with Yellow Line and Blue Line before terminating at Phaya Thai station where it meets Sukhumvit Line.
