The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is a body of the Government of Maharashtra that is responsible for preparation oRegional Plan for MMRand the infrastructure development of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The MMRDA was created on 26 January 1975 under the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority Act, 1974 Government of Maharashtra. The agency is responsible for planning and coordination of development activities in the Region. Composition The MMRDA comprises 17 members and is chaired by the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra Shri. Eknath Shinde, who is also the minister of urban development. It is the most well-funded state owned organization in India. Mumbai Metropolitan Region (ISO 15919, ISO: ''Muṁbaī Mahānagara Pradēśa''; abbreviated to MMR and previously also known as Greater Bombay Metropolitan Area), is a metropolitan area consisting of Mumbai and its Satellite city, satellite towns in the northern Konkan division of Maharashtra in western India. The region has an area of and with a population of over 26 million it is among the List of metropolitan areas by population, most populous metropolitan areas in the world. Developing over a period of about 20 years, it consists of nine municipal corporations and eight smaller municipal councils. Alibag, also known as Alibaug (Pronunciation: libaːɡ, is a coastal city and a municipal council in Raigad district of Maharashtra, India. Ulhasnagar is a city located 26 km from Thane City in Thane district, Maharashtra, India. This city is a part of Mumbai Metropolitan Region managed by the MMRDA. It had an estimated population of 506,098 at the 2011 Census. Ulhasnagar is a municipal city and the headquarters of the Tahsil bearing the same name. Kalyan-Dombivli
Kalyan-Dombivli is a twin city and it comes under Mumbai Metropolitan Region and it is a municipal corporation with its headquarters located in Kalyan in Thane district in the Indian state of Maharashtra. It was formed in 1982 to administer the twin townships of Kalyan and Dombivli. Kalyan has a history of over 700 years.
