''MLB 2K'' was a series of baseball video games that were developed by Visual Concepts and Kush Games, and published by 2K. The series was licensed by, and based on, the Major League Baseball professional baseball organization. It was a successor to the '' World Series Baseball'' games, which were published by Sega. In 2014, 2K announced that the series had been discontinued, following the release of ''2K13''. 2005 The first edition of the series, and the only game to feature the ESPN branding. The game included Web Gems instant replays, K-Zone pitching, Slam Zone hitting, and baserunner mode. The game was released in late February 2005 on the PlayStation 2 and Xbox consoles. The cover baseball player was Yankee shortstop Derek Jeter. Later that year, ''World Series 2K5'' was released during the 2005 MLB postseason. Jon Miller
Jon Miller (born October 11, 1951) is an American sportscaster, known primarily for his broadcasts of Major League Baseball. Since 1997, he has been employed as a play-by-play announcer for the San Francisco Giants. He was also a baseball announcer for ESPN from 1990 to 2010. Miller received the Ford C. Frick Award from the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2010. Early life Jon Miller was born on Hamilton Air Force Base in Novato, California, and grew up in Hayward, listening to Giants announcers Russ Hodges and Lon Simmons on the radio. ''Major League Baseball 2K9'', or ''MLB 2K9'' for short, is an Major League Baseball, MLB-licensed baseball simulation video game published by 2K (company), 2K. ''Major League Baseball 2K8 Fantasy All-Stars'' is the Nintendo DS spin-off of '' Major League Baseball 2K8'' in the vein of '' MLB Power Pros'', developed by Canadian studio Deep Fried Entertainment and published by 2K Sports. It was released on April 15, 2008. Gameplay The game extensively utilizes the Nintendo DS touchscreen, which controls the power and technique of bat swings and the speed and accuracy of pitches. Fielding, baserunning and other controls will also utilize the DS touch screen, by dragging and tracing lines to execute those baseball actions.
