MFM Radio
M Radio (originally known as MFM Radio) is a radio station, based at Lyon (France) and created in 1981. M is dedicated to only French songs like its local competitor in Île-de-France, Chante France. History In 1981, MFM was created in Lyon, then named as Radio Montmartre, and proposed a format essentially based on French chansons from the 1920s till the 1960s. Following a certain success, Radio Montmartre extended its coverage in the late 1980s. In 1995, it was authorized by the CSA to change its name to "Montmartre FM". Until 1998, MFM was controlled by the RMC Group. The station was then acquired by LV & Co who were owned by Gérard Louvin. After the purchase, Montmartre FM became known simply as MFM. In April 2007, the programming was made around a musical format focused on ''relaxation and emotion'', broadcasting mainly songs from the 1970s to today. Compared to other European nations, the French are not avid newspaper readers, citing only 164 adults out of every 1000 as newspaper readers. The French press was healthiest in the aftermath of World War II. A year after the end of the war, 28 papers had a combined circulation of about 7 million. However, seven years later that figure had been nearly halved. This decline was principally due to the greater popularity of the broadcast media and the subsequent diversion of advertising revenues. Since 2000 newly produced free papers have further weakened the established press. Still, 80 daily papers remain, and there is a wide range of weeklies, many of which now feature internet sites. Chante France is a radio station created in 1994 owned by Groupe HPI, based at Paris (France), and dedicated to French Chansons. It currently has 2 transmitters - in Paris and Beauvais, both broadcasting on 90.9 MHz. Its slogan is ''Les plus belles chansons françaises'', a MFM Radio-like slogan (''Vos plus belles chansons françaises'').
