The MARS-500 mission was a psychosocial isolation experiment conducted between 2007 and 2011 by Russia, the European Space Agency, and China, in preparation for an unspecified future crewed spaceflight to the planet Mars. The experiment's facility was located at the Russian Academy of Sciences' Institute of Biomedical Problems (IBMP) in Moscow, Russia. Between 2007 and 2011, three different crews of volunteers lived and worked in a mock-up spacecraft at IBMP. Oleg Artemyev
Oleg Germanovich Artemyev (; born December 28, 1970) is a Russian people, Russian Astronaut, Cosmonaut for the Russian Federal Space Agency. He was selected as part of the RKKE-15 Cosmonaut group in 2003. He was a flight engineer of Expedition 39 and Expedition 40, 40 to the International Space Station. In 2018, he returned to space as the commander of Soyuz MS-08, and in 2022, he returned to space as the commander of Soyuz MS-21. Personal life and education Artemyev was born in Riga, Latvian Soviet Socialist Republic, present-day Latvia, on December 28, 1970, and grew up in Leninsk (now Baikonur), Kazakhstan. Sergey Nikolayevich Ryazansky (; born November 13, 1974) is a Russian cosmonaut. He was selected as commander of the IMBP-6 cosmonaut group in 2003, but later transferred to the TsPK Cosmonaut Group. Ryazansky made his first spaceflight aboard the Soyuz TMA-10M/ Expedition 37/Expedition 38 mission from September 2013 until March 2014. In 2017, Ryazansky returned to space was the commander of Soyuz MS-05, and served as Flight Engineer for Expedition 52 / 53. Personal Ryazansky was born in Moscow, Soviet Union. He is the grandson of Mikhail Ryazanskiy, chief Soviet guidance designer of the Sputnik era. He had a first wife, Lyubava Dmitrievna, divorced and has a second wife, Alexandra.
