Mahsa Amini Human rights and Security Accountability Act (MAHSA Act) is a United States federal law that was enacted on April 24, 2024 as a bipartisan human rights and anti-terrorism legislation in the United States that, for the first time, imposes sanctions and holds accountable leaders of the Islamic Republic regime in Iran for their domestic suppression, crimes against humanity, and international terrorism. The legislation was first introduced as a bill in the 117th Congress right at start of the Woman Life Freedom protests in Iran. Its intention is to put sanctions on the leaders of the Islamic Republic of Iran. The bill was reintroduced as H.R. 589 to the House of Representatives and as S.2626 to the US Senate in the 118th congress. This legislation was passed by the United States Congress in April 23, 2024 and signed into law by US President Joe Biden on April 24, 2024.
